Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

Anonymous
Well, well, well.

I hadn't heard any reports that the woman (Diana?) in the middle of the table said it was depicting the Last Supper. Theatrical people being what they are, I could see it, whether as an inside joke or an in-your-face jab.

I don't really care, do U?

Reminds me of the performance for the opening of that tunnel in, I think, Switzerland? I was hearing how satanic and what not it was.

But the Olympics started in Greece. Olympus was the home of the gods. The torch is still brought from Olympus. Gods should get to hang out one night at least.

They were fully aware of what they were doing. Those are not stupid people. It was intentional to mock and do something similar to The Last Supper with Jesus.

This is victimhood.

No it's not.

Try making fun of Judaism like this.
Try making fun of Islam like this.

You would see fireworks if they had targeted Islam, as someone pointed out in an earlier post.

You would see advertisers pulling out their funds, if they had targeted Judaism.

Take it up with France. Not the US, not my problem.

It’s a global Olympics. France was just the host country. Nothing gets signed off without the Us’s approval.

??? You think all 200 ish nations competing sign off on the opening ceremonies? That Biden sat there are went through them page by page and got to give a thumbs up or thumbs down? Ummm… no. The US doesn’t get a veto over the French opening ceremonies. Not how that works.

Try again.

I didn't see Hakeem Jeffries complaining about it. If it only bothers Christians who are also Republican, then it is politics, not religion.

I didn’t know Hakeem Jeffries was the one man spokesperson for all religious organizations, groups, and peoples.

Good to know. If Jeffries didn’t say it, it didn’t happen folks

Jesus said if someone slaps you, turn the other cheek.

I LIKE that at least non right-wing Christians know that the CORRECT response to stupidity like this is to move along and go on with our day.

This is a GOOD thing!

So what if people from other religions are touchy and crazy? I DON’T WANT THAT.

I don’t want people to “respect” Christianity out of fear, or fear that Christians will turn around and vote for autocrats. How stupid!! Go read the actual Bible and get a life.

I tried reading this thread and it's not clear to me why anyone cares... this happened last week.

I guess the best question is why did Davinci make the last supper painting look so much like a Bacchanalia??

Maybe Hakeem Jefferies is keeping his religion separate from his job as House minority leader, like the Constitution says, and working on actual American problems?

Because it’s an issue of religion and we have actual American political problems. And I would prefer politicians focus on those and not France’s religious problems. And France does have problems with religion. Like trying to ban burkas in public. Very off base. Also, not an American problem.

I thought Rs were “let’s not be the world’s policeman”. I guess we should add, unless we can stir up the base.

The sad thing is the American Olympians get caught in the middle. And do you think they all agree with the opening ceremonies and a liberal elites? They represent something like 47 US states. In everything from dressage to basketball.

The US has to approve what a host country does during an internation event?! Good grief, conservative Christians are really ignorant and extremely provincial.

Are you taking the position that Barbara Butch, the center star of the show, didn’t understand her own role? That’s an interesting take.

I don’t actually care that they decided that middle-school shock antics were what France needed to do in their opening ceremonies. A lot of that ceremony was dumb, interspersed with moments of beauty. But I despise condescending morons like OP who judge without looking at evidence like, say, the Instragram account of the show’s star.

Right wing news and churches tell their right wing Christian followers be offended by and feel persecuted by everything as if the world revolves around them and everyone is out to get them. Exhausting. Fake outrage for the benefit of politicians and churches who ask for money. Suckers be suckered.
