Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

Exactly. Many of you won’t be laughing on November 6th.

As an American Christian, I’d like to understand what this has to do with the Americsnelection?

What did Brexit have to do with Donald Trump? It has everything to do with it.

The Brexit vote happened before Trump was POTUS. For me it was a warning sign to not be overconfident about beating Trump, because populism was on the rise. But, in fact, the two had nothing to do with each other. Except showing populism was on the rise globally.

And, then,..... the "fashion show" that was featured was just as bizarre.

The Olympics is supposed to be about athletes - their skills and sacrifice to become the fastest, the strongest, the best at their sport.

This type of display certainly missed the mark. Big time.

Indeed. Which is why the push to boycott American athletes over French IOC decisions is both sad and sadly predictable from the right.

I am Christian and was not upset because I have a life, but the organizers should have been a little more savvy about what imagery the average person is familiar with.

They were fully aware of what they were doing. Those are not stupid people. It was intentional to mock and do something similar to The Last Supper with Jesus.

This is victimhood.

No it's not.

Try making fun of Judaism like this.
Try making fun of Islam like this.

You would see fireworks if they had targeted Islam, as someone pointed out in an earlier post.

You would see advertisers pulling out their funds, if they had targeted Judaism.

Take it up with France. Not the US, not my problem.

The menage a trois was a reference to Dangerous Liaisons, one of the all-time greatest pieces of French literature. Why do you think it was taking place in a library? And they actually didn't even kiss in the video!

The Feast of Dionysis is a very famous French painting. They show also recreated other famous French paintings.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the entire opening ceremony was a series of references to French culture - art, music, literature, dance, fashion, industry, etc.

It seems Christians only want to claim to be a religion when it's convenient. As this thread is showing, Christianity is a political party. Therefore, we can mock it like it's one.

If people want their religion to be treated like a religion, they need to avoid making it into a political party.

They were fully aware that first Olympic games were held in ancient Greece. Women were strictly forbidden to participate or watch, also men competed naked. Can you not see how this is more about that? But of course, ignorance lacks curiosity and seeks familiar in all that one cannot comprehend. They see christian imagery where anyone with basic knowledge of history will likely connect it to ancient Greece.

The same people defending this are the same people that want to go to war with those countries.

Makes you think...

Complete the sentence. For example I would complete it with…

That we shouldn’t base foreign policy on the opening ceremony of the Olympics. And certainly should penalize hardworking American kids for them.

How do you complete the sentence?

Jews make fun of Judaism all the time. Muslims make fun of Islam all the time. Go the f*ck outside. Stop only talking to white Christians.

Hey moron, you don't know me, so quit making idiotic assumptions.

You’ve talked to all the Muslims and Jews in the world?

Nope. You're going to continue to struggle if you don't figure out how to read.

It’s a global Olympics. France was just the host country. Nothing gets signed off without the Us’s approval.

That's France, not the US. If you're that upset about it, move to France, become a French citizen, and vote against it there.

Otherwise you're just randomly lashing out at things that have absolutely nothing to do with your discontent.

Are we not in the Olympics?

This is the problem with liberals. They lie and gaslight and mock and think Christian people are stupid. It’s not Jesus, it’s just a different painting they are referencing not the most famous Last Supper dinner/feast.

Well, we will see about that on November 6.

Wait. Are you saying we should pull our athletes out mid competition and bring them home? Because I strongly disagree with that. This is not the fault of our athletes, who worked so hard to get there and are proudly representing us.

I’m liberal and agree with this. What I don’t get is what is has to do with the US elections.

And strongly disagree with boycotting an our athletes or pulling them out. Not their fault.

Here is a post showing the now-deleted social media of the “Jesus” of the tableau (Barbara Butch), referencing a picture of the Last Supper, and referring to the New Gay Testament. Butch replaced it a few hours later with a post referencing Dionysus.

There are many screenshots of this out there. I picked the first one that Google found, but you could find it easily from another source if you look.

That's not really admitting anything.

I’m liberal and I don’t.

I also don’t see what it has to do with our politics.

I didn't see Hakeem Jeffries complaining about it. If it only bothers Christians who are also Republican, then it is politics, not religion.
