You really don't fly much.

NP here, and I fly week in and between Europe and Asia, and live here for work. Most people do not recline in the daytime. For night flights, the etiquette is that you recline after dinner when the lights are dimmed, if it is a long flight.

It really is uncouth to recline in the day. Nobody is going to publicly call you out, but you are making yourself look like an ignorant clod, much like the person wearing a fanny pack or talking really loudly in public so that everyone around you can hear you all the time, or wearing those stupid giant American tee shirts with Disney characters on them. ‘Merica, and it is your right! But uncouth.

No one cares what you think is uncool.

Look around you. Ask yourself why you are behaving differently than others and what entitles you to do that.

The price of my ticket and the seat options allow me to do that. I don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else does.

There are so many people like you and you make life unnecessarily unpleasant. It's not about the reclining. It's this self-absorbed attitude. You also likely are a terrible driver, cut lines, think the rules don't apply to you, and yet complain loudly when you don't get your way. Honestly, you are a selfish jerk and you suck.

You may be the most un-self aware person on the planet. Someone is doing something completely within their rights and that makes you mad - who’s the selfish jerk? Since you’re so clueless I’ll answer that for you - you are the selfish jerk. And none too bright to boot.

I am GENUINELY a DP, and it is my guess that what made him mad was the "I don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else does." comment. The OP's original comment, which I do not agree with, was fairly benign.

The "I don't give a rat's ass" was me and I'm not OP. That was in response to "look around you and make sure you're doing what everyone else is doing" instruction. So if everyone else decides to stand, I should do the same? How about if everyone else decides to jump up and down?

Do you read the comments you reply to? I agree it is your right to recline and no you need not do as others do, and said so several times. It's the "I don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else does" that I find not only distasteful but lowers you to the position you object to. It's self-defeating. If there was not one single response to OP you'd have had the win you clearly require for some reason.

There was no reason to go "I don't give a rat's ass what you or anyone else does".

And before you respond to that I know you don't give a rats ass about that either. But maybe you should.

I wasn’t responding to you with that comment. Not even sure why you keep posting other than to read your own words.

Because I think people should be nicer and better here than you were being. You over-reacted 100%. And now you choose to insult me, that's fine, that is your prerogative as well. So I won't comment on this any more as you request. But my point has been made.

Interesting that you arent going after the anti-recliners calling people selfish jerks, etc. Guess your prerogative to denigrate others is limited to the recliners?

This statement would be preposterous if it wasn't so damned funny. So very very funny. Prejudiced against rude recliners only!

No, and if you would read what I wrote instead of knee-jerking you'd know that.

You literally only admonished recliners, saying they should be kinder. Yet no comments made to the people using actual insults to other humans doing what the airline specifically allows them to do.

Lol.

Yes, that is. Until the airline bans reclining, it's fully allowed and not rude or entitled to use the seat as designed.

What you were really saying was that you think that they shouldn’t recline and everyone else should respect your wishes.

I said in my first post, reclining is not rude and within the person's right. This is indisputable. All the "rat's ass" and "ima gonna" internet tough guy-ing actually WEAKENS your argument and makes you look like a bunch of dickheads.

But how much does the seat in question recline?

Seriously, I’m trying to understand the scope of the problem, because I’m not sure if we’re all on the same page. As I discussed upthread, the reclining seats I’m familiar with barely recline, maybe 2 inches at the top (and I’m not sure it’s even that much) which is the widest difference. Since it pivots, reducing the difference as it nears the seat base, and your knees would only be slightly above the pivot point, the distance would seem to be pretty small. Unless your knees were practically touching the seat back to begin with, it’s hard to imagine the 1/4 - 1/2” difference inconveniencing you.

On the other hand, maybe your airline has seats that recline significantly more. Then it could obviously be a major imposition. Taken to an extreme, nobody wants someone else’s head in their lap.

For the sake of clarity, would you please specify approximately how much these seats recline?

See, and I promise I do not mean this as an insult, I think you sound like a martyr who is trying to prove to yourself how superior you are without even being willing to treat yourself as an equal to everyone else who paid for the same basic economy seats. I think it's deeply rooted insecurity.

The people I know like this just complain about things being unfair to them and don't seek appropriate solutions that they are entitled to.

Where on earth did you get that vibe from their post? I am tall with long legs and I knew exactly what they meant. I don’t recline either because of how much it infringes on my space when the person in front of me does. But as long as planes have reclining seats, it is definitely someone’s right to recline.

The two inch poster must not have much experience with someone’s seat in their space making it difficult to reach into your carryon under your seat, or have your tray table right up against you when the seat in front is reclined making it uncomfortable.

Again, it’s the airlines who need to correct this. Not everyone can afford to upgrade on every flight. People aren’t wrong to recline but people are naive if they think it doesn’t negatively impact the person behind them.

+1 and much like the luggage carousel thread from a couple days ago, people are so allergic to saying “excuse me can you move For a moment?” If you can’t reach your carry-on, it’s fine to ask someone to move their seat up for a minute
