It looks like they are combining genders for family life education in the pilot program.

You are incorrect. The pilot has options for mixed gender and single gender FLE classes.

There was not a survey. There was an email address in 2023 that anti-LGBTQ people spammed nationwide ("we need to get the whole country involved in FCPS" was Jeff Hoffmann's quote). Even then it had a only a couple of thousand responses. The written comments were almost all non-responsive and just gross anti-LGBTQ hate. The total number of people who said that they were "FCPS Parents" was fewer than 40. There are around 360,000 parents in FCPS. 40/360000 is not 80%. Fake number, fake news. This junk piece of "data" needs to end here.

If you don’t like family life curriculum put your kid in a religious private and shut up.

You want your kid to get pregnant early have at it.

No you will not stop the rest of US

Hmmm … I think most people here are saying that they DO want as many kids as possible to receive the curriculum. And that putting all of the kids together in the same room will accomplish just the opposite.

P.S. You have some serious anger issues.

Np. Why though? We should
Not be embarrassed to have these talks in mixed gendered environments. That just continues the embarrassment and inability to be open with one another. I’ll never understand this. But whatever. My now older teen is far less embarrassed over this stuff bc we talk openly about it.

The low income ESOL families have some of the most traditional families.

This is a twrrible idea.

If fcps is going to combine boys and girls for sex ed, it needs to be in the wealthiest bluest communities in northern Virginia, not the poor immigrant communities.

Pilot it in the wealthy neighborhoods with the greatest percentage of democrat votes. I am sure those neighborhoods will be thrilled to have boys and hirls together for 5th-8th grade sex ed.

OMG boys and girls learning about boobies together and boy parts. OMG OMG OMG OMG
OMB boys and girls learning how to talk to each other about sex omg omg omg

Kids are smarter than parents.

This is a juvenile comment. In a survey last year, parents said they didn't want their kids learning about these things with the opposite sex. It seems weird that fcps would start a pilot program doing just that. Your immature scrutiny is misplaced. We should be asking the school board why they're starting this program and not making fun of parents for their questions and concerns.

I’m not going to make fun. I agree, there’s no purpose for that. I don’t really see what’s wrong with same gender classes for FLE. The topics are natural science. Perhaps we should work to move past the “hush hush”, secretive air that surrounds such topics.

You are in the minority. More than 80% of fcps parents objected in last year's survey. I have a daughter in elementary school. She would be very embarrassed to learn about these things with boys and would not ask any questions. Most children I know are that way. The insistence from our district leadership on the shared space for instruction is strange. It is unpopular so it seems that instead of voting on it, school board members are starting it in a back-door way through this "pilot program." And why? That is cagey and not at all transparent.

This is false. No one knows who filled out the survey from last year and there was plenty of evidence ce that it was spammed by put of towners.

You can hypothesize as much as you want about outsiders spamming the survey, but, please, explain how students’ and staff’s accounts were able to be spammed without FCPS knowing it, or doing anything afterwards. A security breach of that sort should have been addressed immediately and reported to the community. The only one who claims that happened was Karl Frisch. It must be because he is used to doing that. Furthermore, Superintendent Reid’s only response was that the majority doesn’t get to rule. The response of these two individuals who make decisions for the rest of us tells us everything we need to know.

Wow, you are making up things. There was no security breach, just an open survey taken by ANYONE in the U.S. There are no names attached to the survey and anyone can see that there were duplicate answers. Lord knows who took the survey, so don't misrepresent it.

You still have refused to explain how is it that the survey filled out by students and staff from their FCPS secured computers was breached by outsiders. Their answers to the survey were overwhelmingly opposed to the changes proposed by FCPS. It was not the just the “imaginary parents” from all over the country that opposed to those changes. Unless, of course, students and staff input don’t count for you.

We shouldn't be letting anyone not a FCPS parent do these surveys. Require the student ID to fill it out & don't let the system accept the same student ID twice. 'Easy. Done.

the kids do not want combined sex ed

We need to quit letting creeps and predators like this poster from getting so much control over our kids and public school.

Modesty is developmental. Private parts are private for a reason.

You can't just "make it go away".

Only predators want to eliminate this natural, developmentally appropriate modesty.

Anyone opposed go homeschool

Around 80 plus percent of the students do not want combined sex ed based on tge survey last year.

Based on the overwhelming response against this by students, parents and teachers, it seams like your family and the less than 20% in favor should be the ones homeschooling.

The kids don’t want this either, so maybe they are smarter.
Our Congregation does a full year program in 8th grade and it includes everyone. It has been this way for generations.

And are the topics the same as they are with the 8th-grade FCPS curriculum or is it a lighter version?
FCPS is the lighter version.

No, dear.

Please keep your religion out of public schools.

+1

Keep your sky monkey out of my kid’s education.

DP. I don't think there is any sky monkey in UU. Or anything else.

You are the far left mirror to fundamentalist islam or small sect fundamentalist Christianity.

I agree, your religion should not be the template for public education.

That makes sense. Fewer involved parents to lodge complaints. I wonder if they'll share the curriculum for the pilot program. Will be interesting to see.

2nd generation families need to reach out to the community groups and houses of worship that support these new families to let them know their kids are being exploited by activists in the school board.

The students and teachers could only answer the survey using their fcps email account.

I hope you aren't a part of developing curriculum.

Oh goody. Let's read a Republican blog on the evils of sex education. How old is this guy anyway?

The author of this article is not much older than Robert Rigby Jr., or Karl Frisch. The only difference is that as a father, he has gained experience and wisdom; therefore he is advocating for the safety of all children, whereas Rigby and Frisch are pushing their own personal agenda on other people’s children. Talk about the evils of sex education in FCPS!

Hey Mark Spooner! Did your kids ever go to FCPS? Targeting two gay men constantly is homophobic. At least they listen to people. You are self-righteous and uninformed.

Lol! I’m a parent with kids in FCPS, and not Mark Spooner, the author of the article. Homophobic on my part would be to agree that girls that identify as lesbians are actually men, and therefore should submit themselves to invasive procedures to look masculine; or insist that boys who identify as gay are actually women, and submit themselves to such procedures that will yield to irreversible damage. On the contrary, your alluding to Mr. Spooner’s age on a derogatory tone displays an attitude of ageism on your part, with a touch of gerontophobia.

I haven’t met Mark Spooner, and the first I learned of him was from the last School Board meeting, yet I really admire his courage. Let me share with you a little bit about his background:

I saw Mark Spooner at a school board meeting too. He was so proud of himself when he discussed the necessity of slavery. He is past 80 and seems to know nothing about our schools, but glad you find him rivieting.

President Biden is 81 years old. He created a stir at a campaign speech in Virginia that include a black audience) when he told the crowd that his opponent’s policies would enable the banking and financial sectors to "put you all back in chains."

President Biden knows nothing about Title IX when it comes to women’s rights, but glad you find him - and those in the School Board who second him on this topic - riveting.
