Give me a call when the President and Vice President are both women, the Supreme Court are all women, Wall Street and industry are led by women, the military, science, academia, medicine, etc.

Boys are fine. Even mediocre boys and men are advantaged over women.

Men and women are wired differently, whether you want to admit it or not. In our social circle made up of two professional households, roughly 50% of women are out of the workforce or take on a consultancy role by the times their kids are in high school. Which is totally fine.

It would be totally fine if 50% of parents were out of the workforce or take on a consultancy role by the times their kids are in high school. No reason it should always be the women, especially now that is has been a couple of generations since women have been going to college and working in equal numbers to men. They should have the hang of equal responsibilities at home by now.

DP. No, not really. This is a choice of inclination. I chose to work part time, DH didn't. You don't get to tell me he should have, to suit your idea of equity.

The reason it is mostly the woman, especially now that it has been a couple of generations since women have been going to college and working, means that this is our choice, not forced by the patriarchy or by anyone else.

Conversely you can’t say it should be the man because it fit your desires.

The reason it’s mostly women is because men are shamed when taking the part time position.

Also now that women have opportunity divorce laws need to be aligned to that new model instead of allowing people to live off the dole.

What I took away from this was - girls outperform boys pretty much everywhere, and yet boys still run the world. Hmmm...

— despite all the programs encouraging women in stem, there is still a huge gap. I have a teen daughter who has always liked math/compuyers. She has done computer science camp since age 7. This is a camp that has a particular program to encourage girls. And yet by age 12, she was basically the only girl left in the programming stuff. I count the heads in her AP comp sci classes, and it’s mostly boys. There is still a lot of stigma among tween/teen girls for the tech fields (although I think no stigma for the sciences that are perceived as more “helping” sciences like Bio or Enviro).

Yes, you can't force girls to study STEM if they are not interested. Just like not many boys enter teaching or nursing (nursing in particular pays quite well). But we see no efforts to get more boys into those fields, and plenty of effort to get girls into certain fields. Boys are pretty much ignored.

But it’s okay to force boys?

There are plenty of effort to get boys into STEM.

But look at the quality of 'the boys'. That is a major issue and one we should all care about rather than disregard these concerns.

Leadership roles like that require years of experience. Yes, boys had an advantage back when Biden was in elementary school.. in the 1950s. In the 1960s when Biden went to college, indeed most college graduates were men.

But times have changed. Now look at people who graduated high school in the last 10 years -- women are outperforming and outnumbering men. It's only a matter of time before people that age have gained the experience and also take top leadership roles.

And? Are we concerned that women could be in charge one day?

I do think they struggle more with identity and role models now. It is especially more fraught with the MAGA/Trump influences on young men.

I think that is why the Kelces are getting so much positive attention and I love it.

Success is not a zero-sum game when it comes to gender. I think many young women are being taught that it is.

Agree.

In 2024, the feminism girls and young women are taught is different.

Feminism in 2024 is not about equality. Feminism in 2024 is about female supremacy.

Certainly seems to be the message after watching the Hollywood hit, Barbie.

Art imitates life.

When I hear my son complain about how girls have everything better, easier and boys have the deck stacked against them, I get an instant eye roll. Boys still need more advantages than they already have to feel equity. Affirmative action is a plot again his gender. Me too has made men scared to approach women. I think he gets this crap from incel podcasts. My son was an A student, has a good degree and a great paying job. Girls are still overpowering to him.

I think women are the only way that the world will survive. If women ruled the world we would have less war, a better childcare for all.

Are you a regular on DCUM? How can you think that woman would do an excellent job of running things? Have you spent any time here?

What you are missing is that boys eventually catch up, and of course can also move beyond if they are encouraged to keep moving forward (which isn't happening everywhere the way it used to). They develop slower, and the difference happens to be the most stark just at that point in time when academic performance sets you on the path to the next level. Once you get to college and grad school however, boys finish their brain development and catch up and/or move beyond. This is similar to the research on gifted brains in early childhood: they physically develop more slowly because they are growing more neurons on more surface area.

Yeah no. Look at college enrollment and attainment by sex/gender:
