Looks like a strike for Auto workers is likely in Fall.

Greedy? They are woefully underpaid when you look at what companies are brining in. Asking for COLA is not greedy.

The CEO of GM earns 360 times what her laborers earn. That’s immoral and obscene. White collar exploitation of the working class cannot continue like this. Go UAW!

So if you cut the CEO pay in 1/2, you save perhaps 15 million of her current 29 million salary. Ok. Then you perhaps cut the salary of the top 10 executives in GM and you save perhaps another 10 million.

So you save the company 25 million dollars a year.

According to Bloomberg, the proposals asked by the UAW equal about 80 Billion dollars a year more for the auto makers which will be about a 25 Billion dollar increase for GM’s portion.

So when you guys write crap like, “the crap makes so much and everyone should too”, it does not mean squat.

You could double the CEO pay or cut it to Zero. It does not matter for the health of the company and its survival.

But increasing the salary costs by 25 Billion is insane!!!! The company will go bankrupt and everyone will be out of a job.

So save 25 million in CEO and executive salaries, but increase cost of labor by 25 Billioon and go bankrupt. Hmmmm

I guess those exploiting the workers should’ve thought of that.

Exactly ...the argument that, "BuT BuT CeO MakeS 360x WhaT LinE WOrKeRs Do!!" Is so dumb. You could cut $28M out of $29M in compensation for GM's CEO and you know what? That'd be meaningless to GM's entire bottom line and health of the company because $28M is pennies to a multi billion dollar corporation like GM.

What will kill GM a lot more is when labor tries to extort ridiculous compensation that will add tens of BILLIONS more in costs to the company, saddle it it massive debt, and kill all possibilities of making profits.

Get rid of union workers now before they kill what's left of American industry. Automate them out, switch to EVs, and hire migrants/foreigners to do the job.

I’m all for labor and world era getting a good salary and benefits. Lots of hard working people there.

But Union leadership is asking for ridiculous comp and befits and I saw that Ford offered a 20 percent pay hike that was rejected. I think the Union is leading their membership in a disaster.

So UAW wants:

COLA

32 hour work week but being paid for 40 hours of work.

40 percent pay increase

Healthcare for retirees

Guaranteed pension plans.

Cost of ask is 20 Billion per year increase in cost to each of the 3 companies.

Uh, time to fire people and bring in more robots?

OK Mitt, you ran on “let Detroit go bankrupt” and lost, though.

Mitt was right

Obama led to trump

Good job by black Jesus

TF is wrong with you? Maintaining those companies was literally a national security issue as well as staving off further economic catastrophe, and we’ve been paid back with interest.

Yep, correct. But don't expect PP to acknowledge facts. And OP is categorically and profoundly stupid in his/her characterization of who will and won't support the strike.

What is wrong with any of those things? God forbid people want to afford food, have affordable healthcare, and enjoy life in their retirement. None of this is unreasonable.

If it is a national security issue that’s even more of a reason to fairly compensate workers.

Ok it’s 80 Billion to Each of the 3 companies over a 4 year period.

So basically 20 Billion a year more in employee cost to each car company.

That’s devastating.

You know UAW doesn't expect to get all of this. It's a starting point. Start high because companies will low ball.

If you never intend to let a large group of people exceed a certain level of security/wealth and the power to allocate resources sits with the minority then that is a rigged system. An immoral scam set up to bestow privilege on a self selected minority at the expense of the common person. This will never work because people won’t put up with being conned like that over the long term.

Oh please, they're trying to extort more than a COLA. Be honest.

They want 46% pay increases. They want to get rid of 401ks and have guaranteed pensions. They want healthcare for retirees. They want additional 'inflation' compensation. It will make any company bankrupt.

Bring on the EVs please.

Then maybe the CEO should align his own compensation with what the business can withstand. You can’t award yourself massive benefits while crying poor about giving anything to others who also generate profit for the company. Sounds to me like the CEO needs to be a true leader and voluntarily match the 20% that is being offered to labor. Then get labor to agree to a fair deal without double standards.

Interestingly enough I sold my car to Carvana and they picked it up and paid for it yesterday. The check they cut me for was 10% more than originally agreed to because of predicted effects of this strike. Yikes.
