Hi OP, I'm a Dem and urban elite (probably by whatever definition you use) who supports unions and would support this strike if it happens! Thanks for calling attention to the issues. |
I’ll support the strike if it happens but I would t say it’s likely yet. They have another 2 weeks before expiration. That’s a lot of time to strike a deal. Strike vote is pretty normal in the month leading up to expiration. I don’t know how far apart they are. I wouldn’t think the big 3 would want to take a strike this year though. |
Lived in Detroit a long time. These three companies had high 70% market share even in the late 1980s. Now it's about 46%. They don't affect the economy like they once did. If they go on strike, how much of the US even cares? |
Exact,y, they’ll kill what’s left of the companies and then they can all lose their jobs. Fantastic. |
Agree. The urban elite Dems are not far off from GOP. I was shocked moving from Ford farm country to DC. Such hypocrites when it came to the support of urban Detroit. In the lead up to obama’s first term, Hilary at least made a stop in Detroit. The rest treat Detroit and other urbanites like dirt. They don’t even respect them and put them down for being from flyover country. It was a complete shock to the system. |
While we’re at it, let’s bring in cheaper doctors from the Caribbean med schools. |
Personal Auto assembly for ice products is a low margin low value business.
It shouldn’t really be in the us unless it is all automated. That should really be moved to Mexico. You don’t see NL or Switzerland assemble autos. It doesn’t make sense for the US to do it either unless it is EVs |
I will also add that the problem is the delta between jobs. An automaker or truck driver is about as important as a doctor. Get over yourself. |
Not carribean but you could easily take pretty much every British doctor and move them here tomorrow if you let them practice without having to redo residency. 🇬🇧 docs are insanely poorly paid so a ton are leaving. |
Practicing medicine requires an education, dimwit. That's not the case for UAW or UPS drivers now earning outrageous compensation. |
What is outrageous about it? |
While I agree that the modern democratic party is much more elitist, "stick it to the working class" than it used to be, this is an issue that dems will side with the unions on. Biden has made auto unions a key benefactor of his policies. In fact, his beef with Tesla is that Tesla doesn't allow union workers. Biden has crafted multiple executive orders that directly benefit auto unions. So, while your general sentiment is correct, on this issue, they will side with the auto workers. |
Perfect retort from the urban elite Oblivious to their bias and value judgement that educated people earning high salaries is appropriate age but uneducated people earning high salaries is outrageous Let’s import millions more , to add to the 4,000,000 illegal aliens and the 800,000 legal immigration pushed by democrats. Screw those low wage US citizens , I mean deplorables |
Tell the GOP time to sit down and act like adults instead of whipping up anti-immigrant hysteria while letting businesses profit mightily and depress the wages and workers’ rights of American workers. And i love how pickled Republicans’ brains are. When’s the last time any of you supported a union? Higher wages? Employee protections? OSHA? I’ll tell you: never. |
