Anyone here opting their kids out of sex ed in Virginia?

Rather I will be reviewing what they are taught and using it for discussion at home. I agree with most that I think the general gist is puberty but if there are things I don't agree with or feel weird about the language, I would still rather my kids hear it first hand and be on the same page as their peers, and we can talk about it seperately if need be.

This seems to be the best method. I think a lot of the people pulling out (hehe) are NOT comfortable with talking about these things though.

The most accurate indicator to your inquiry would be the kids you know who DO participate in the FCPS FLE program. Are their attitudes and behaviors those that you would like your children to emulate when it comes to topics covered in the above mentioned programs? On the other hand, how about the ones who you know are opted-out?

Lastly, the controversies surrounding the FCPS FLE program are no longer related to what political affiliation you have, or how much you like (or not) Trump, but rather what is right and what is wrong, and where you stand in this ethical dilema. If you follow through with opting your kids out - even if they were the only ones in their class(es), you’ll be teaching them a very important lesson: In life, there are those who lead, no matter the cost; and there are those who follow others, irregardless of the price they have to pay for it.

Regardless. The word is regardless.

When poorly educated people try to sound smart. Was this written by some MAGA version of Chat GPT?

Your kid will learn about puberty and that it's ok to have 2 moms. Relax.

Yes, I totally recognize that I'm an outlier in the group on this, but I just don't think elementary school kids need to be learning about all of the trans/non-binary stuff. In any event, we'll cover it when DD is bigger.

They don’t learn that in elementary. Read the state curriculum before you make stupid decisions and make stupid comments.

+1
Yep. Zero need to combine genders and we will opt out as well if this happens.

But using the language "assigned at birth" invites kids to question "what does that mean?".....and just because you don't agree with someone doesn't make them stupid or their comment stupid.

You’ll be teaching them to be a bigot.

And sometimes in life, there are people who make bad arguments using bad vocabulary, IRREGARDLESS of where you stand on the issue.

If you don’t like irregardless, don’t use it!

As for the Term Accuracy Police in this thread, have you noticed how FCPS refers to boys as males assigned at birth, and to girls as females assigned at birth? According to the dictionary and science books, it’s actually boy or man, and girl or woman. And, according to science, sex is determined at conception, not arbitrarily “assigned” by anyone at the birthing table depending on what side of the bed the doctor or nurse woke up that morning. Good luck trying to reconcile this discrepancy with your children, not to mention when they come home and share with you how FLE teaches them that they are neither boy nor girl just because they were told so, but rather anything they choose (gender fluid) and they can change their “gender” as many times as they wish in the safe environment of school. In fact, parents don’t even need to know. Likewise, be prepared in case your son gets petrified because he is told men menstruate and can get pregnant.

If the bolded is true, that is reason enough to opt your child out of FLE. It is not based in reality.

OP, it really is not a big deal. All my kids took sex ed, all came back more informed about themselves and others, and none were confused or outraged. I think you are making this out to be greater than it is.

I will be opting out.

This is located where in the curriculum?

OP I’m sure there are a lot of people who think like you. I certainly do! I used to consider myself a progressive. I am pro-union, pro-Medicare for all, anti-war, pro-living wage, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage but this trans women are women and non-binary stuff is insane. My understanding though is these topics aren’t introduced in elementary school so for now I won’t be opting my girls out. I would prefer sex ed classes to be segregated in elementary school but even if they aren’t I still wouldn’t opt my girls out. It’s just this trans/non-binary stuff which is too much.

OP, I don't think you are a democrat and I don't think you voted for President Biden. A bigot is a bigot.
