Your kid will learn about puberty and that it's ok to have 2 moms. Relax.

That’s not in the FCPS sex ed curriculum. And many people don’t think it’s ok to have 2 moms - it’s an anomaly.

Which people? Religious extremists?

Does OP think it’s ok?

So sick of this standard response. No not religious extremists. Normal people who grew up with a mom and dad and think it’s odd to have two moms or two dads. They aren’t going to say anything in front of the odd couple but will think it.

OP, you are really overthinking this. I've had 2 kids now complete sex ed in FCPS and there is nothing controversial about it. The courses are puberty related. They've covered menstruation, fertility, and puberty for both boys and girls. parents get a handout with topics covered and for the most part it is pretty benign.

I, for one, was very glad that my kids did it because I had not had the puberty conversation with them prior and was glad FCPS opened the conversation for me. I talked to my DD about her period and what to expect. DS talked to DH about male puberty.

It is fairly low key and not particularly controversial. I asked kids if most participated and they said yes. So there may be some religious, far right opt outs but for the most party everyone participated - at least at our school.

It is NOT a class on trans issues. There was zero of that talk and my DS did it this year.

But I just really can't deal with the extreme positions Democrats have staked out on some of these sexuality and gender debates. Of course I'd never say this publicly. Just curious how many others who feel like me are out there.

No, not “normal people”.

Are you OP?

Considering that my DS’s best friend is non-binary (assigned female at birth, goes by he/him and a more “boy” name) since 2nd grade I think basic sex education in elementary school is great.

Yes, if you opt your kids out of sex ed, you're not a democrat. Don't vote for democrats ever again. Traitor. Go away!

Puberty starts earlier these days for some kids so I think the topics are important for kids to have before middle school. There are kids in my son’s third grade who are already developing.

Yup, please don't vote for a democrat ever again. You are out of the club!

What’s covered? Are you sure it’s covering the topics you think? I thought it was just puberty and reproduction, but maybe I’m naive.

All of this

Bullshit.

Tell me exactly what in the curriculum you object to. You can review it.

This. If you think your kids won't hear about it because you opt-out of the class, you're very naive.

No. I'd rather kids get facutal, correct info rather than whatever they find online or from their friends.
