Swim Team Drama

Anonymous
I don’t want to get conspiratorial or anything but have there ever been any major scandals involving bribery in NVSL? It just sounds so weird and like a system that is ripe for abuse. I know some teams recruit and allegedly pay families to join (free memberships etc), so why not pay off coaches from other teams to lose. Interesting. Not sure I even want to know!

Is this the woman trying to sue?

Sue? I love this. The saga continues ……what is she suing for? Are lawyers involved! Awesome!!!

They are suing but managed to get into a highly ranked pool so seem to have let the suit fester all summer. You can look it up in Civil Court filings. It's like they tried to call the pool's bluff this spring and that didn't work out so they had to go forward with it. That's when things got sent to the whole membership, since it's the pool as an entity that's being sued.

What’s the name of the suit?!

Let’s just say it would be highly entertaining content for a real housewives of Arlington series.

I’m definitely looking this up

Pretty sure I found the case/docket but not being a lawyer I can’t get the filing or any details. The Arlington is a big hint as it limits it to 4 possible pools

Link me what you got, come on. Spill the tea!

I think McCrazy is associated with Dominion Hills. I found a suit filed in May 2023 but can’t get any additional info cuz I suck at internet sleuthing.

Looks like a CRE developer who ran for the board last year is now suing the pool. Docket CL23001682. Wish I could see the filing

But, the kids still come back because of the fun. Swim Team is about the team. Coaches put together the best lineup so the team can win. The coach should not be putting Johnny in butterfly just so he can get all-star time. Put Johnny in so he can score points. But the coach may put Johnny in back based on the times of the other swimmers and it's not his best event but he will score the points needed. Summer swim is more of a team event and winter swim is about the individual.

The drama arises when the coach puts Johnny in backstroke behind kids on his own team, perhaps to give another kid a better shot at the high point award, and Johnny doesn't score points, and then the team doesn't win butterfly, Johnny's best event, either. Numerous posters are pointing out that things like this happen in summer swim.

The drama starts when Jonny doesn't get to swim fly for divisionals even though he would have a shot at all-stars. Johnny and his parents are going to start drama or leave.

Hmm, at our pool Johnny could still swim it at Divisionals is he had a B meet time faster than other teammates . He’d be put in the slow heat as a NT though if coach never put him in the event at an A meet and that could hurt his chance at making an all-star cut. I think drama does ensue wrt letting kids jump over others in events that they would have won points in though.

NVSL?
They could seed him using a B meet time or coach certified time.

Search DCUM for McCrazy too.

Exciting!

By divisionals the drama has already been building for several weeks. This is especially true when you have a kid who's capable of making All-Stars in their best events swimming in events where they're almost certainly going to score fewer points in dual meets.

That sucks. And doesn’t that hurt the team’s seeding for the next year too?

On the margins maybe, but it's how the favoritism / nepotism game is played.

I wish I were oblivious about this, but sadly I’m not. Just glad our family didn’t drink all of the koolaid and sacrifice too much of our time and energy to summer swim!

Anonymous wrote:Now that the season is over with all stars remaining, what kind of drama did you have this summer with your swim team?

We had parents very upset that times from the last B meet were not used for the Divisional lineups. The divisional lineup was already set before the last B Meet.

If that was the case then parents and swimmers should have been informed of this ahead of time. It seem odd that B meet times all count, but that one doesn't. Sure it cuts it close but there is still time.

B times count for A meets, but only A meets count for Divisionals.

Depends on your team and your league. NVSL has no rules on what times can be used for divisional entries. Teams can enter a kid in an event without a time.

You can enter a kid without a time but for seeding purposes you must use an A meet time.

This is just not true. Our coaches used B meet times for Divisionals.

Not for seeding in MCSL they didn’t. You can use them to determine who swims but not for seeding.

Then how do kids get IM entries?

The same way as any other event. What does that question even mean??

No IM at A meets in NVSL, but it is an event at Divisionals. I believe coaches can use B meet times for seeding at Divisionals.

I like our smaller team in lower division. We win some and lose some, everyone gets a chance to swim. We have All-stars, and they're not leaving.

As oppose to another swim team down the road, they aspire to move up in divisions. They're pretty much focus on the faster swimmers, virtually ignoring the rest. There are constant fundraisings to improve playground and team area, putting pressure on parents and the kids.
Uh!

No way to look this up when we don’t know which league or which pool which court or any of the names involved. Can’t you just summarize what the complaint is? What did they do?
