What I said was, never saw a man take 4 months. Even among men who were technically allowed to by employer policy. |
| The WFH crybabies are losers. Remember, the new cool is quiet quitting. If you’re their boss, maybe you can fire them. |
I’m like you in that I have older children. I am unlike you in every other respect as far as this post. I stayed home with my kids for years and did not work for pay. I’m back in the workforce and marvel at the heartlessness of posts like this. Have some compassion, raising kids is hard no matter how it is done. Be glad you aren’t the one with a fussy toddler and stop acting like one. Now, if there is an employee who seems to routinely do this as a strategy, I’d look at ways to solve that issue. |
| I agree that you should not be using WFH as your full-time childcare plan. However, I think that is very different from occasionally logging into work while your kid is home sick or when school is randomly closed. |
| I tell people to contact me later when their children are not around. It's not professional. |
+1 This past school year our daycare was fine. But 2021-22 school year? My child was quarantined for exposure three different times. In the fall that meant being out of school at least 7 days. In the spring it was between 3-5 days depending on weekends. And she was perfectly fine. Couple that with when she was actually sick (and they were really strict on keeping her home with a runny nose or whatever) and it was exhausting. |
| PP again and we were paying a lot of childcare. So we couldn’t afford to pay back up childcare to cover a full week out of school. So we took lots of days off or my DH worked with her in the house with him. |
WTF? It most assuredly DOES happen. It’s not “made up” in the slightest. |
lol this OP is very clearly not anyone’s boss. What actual bosses in this area know is that retention is the new hiring. Every employee is casually looking at other positions in a job market like this one. The parent OP is complaining about is likely considered a more valuable employee than OP. |
Sure, Jan. More and more workers who were allowed WFH during the pandemic are being called back into the office. Deal with it. |
It is true. For some strange reason, it’s like you desperately want this not to be true. But it is true. |
I agree. It happens all the time. |

at Freddie Mac, all the Indian moms would do this. have children in the background. it was part of Freddie Mac culture. |
I literally lost my job at Freddie trying to get Indian moms to work. Was a relief. They gave me big severance and no longer my problem. |
