Navy Elementary New Principal

+1 and I love that they are splitting open house times by last name again! I absolutely hated cramming the whole class into the classroom at the same time and then having to go to the back to school night right away. Very impersonal.

I love the return to a traditional back to school night!

Most of us guessed Thursday or Friday. It’s nice to know for sure finally.

Parking should be fun.

Pro tip from a veteran FCPS Mom since 2004;

Go to the Open House midway through! If it’s say 10-12, aim to arrive @11:15. Don’t go so early that you are waiting in line for the school doors to be unlocked. Open House = staggered times. You can hit the parking lot at 11:10 and the early birds will be leaving!

Also, life will go on if you and DC don’t go to Open House! It’s fine to skip! Don’t leave a vacation early for this.

Keep in mind that this isn’t a parent-teacher conference: do NOT monopolize the teacher’s time! Have DC introduce themselves briefly, period. No standing around and chatting with the teacher for the entire time. A wave will suffice. If your DC has all sorts of special info that must be conveyed, send in a letter in an envelope.

You’re welcome!

No thanks. We like to get there early to get a parking spot. And we like to stay in the room until our time is up and see other kids and parents. And take time to unpack and look around the room.

I have a kid in ES, MS and HS. All three open houses are on the 17th. My suspicion is that Gatehouse made it a policy and that's why we didn't hear from the school until later than usual.

You're probably giving them too much credit.

Your suspicion is flat out wrong. There’s no “policy” about what day to have open houses.

+1 it’s up to each school to decide when open house is. Teachers typically like it on Thursday so they have Friday free to plan for the first day/week and leave early. Principals often give teachers liberal leave on the Friday before the first week.

Perhaps the poster was being, I don’t know…funny? 😬
Cheers to you, PP, for being so serious on this Sunday morning.

Yes thank you. I was trying to lighten the mood in this thread.

Do you realize my response was light hearted as well? Hence the “?!” I thought it was funny!

Forgive me, but with the intensity of posters here fretting two weeks out about some open house time, picking about a new principal and anything else they can dissect, it’s pretty easy to assume you were being serious.
