Well, OK then! |
Incorrect, North Bethesda used to be called Rockville. They just try to pretend it's fancier now. It would be like calling Woodside East Chevy Chase. |
Rockville used to be called Hungerford's Tavern. Times change. It's been North Bethesda for at least 50 years now. How old are you? |
Some folks can't let go. |
It’s right off rockville pike is it not? North Bethesda is rockville rebranded by strivers |
It's on Old Georgetown Rd. |
No. We moved here in 2912. The Toys R Us where Pike and Rose now sits had a Rockville address. It’s so fake who, when and why they want to claim North Bethesda over Rockville. Very similar to the Wheaton vs Silver Spring designation in the media. Anything g negative gets labelled as Wheaton despite a SS address and anything positive will get labelled as SS or even N Bethesda! Was it like this with North Kensington back in the day? |
"North Georgetown"! |
| It's been "North Bethesda" at least since the 70s, even if y'all want to think otherwise. |
No... this was a move entirely driven by realtors, but it is a lot more recent than that. |
It may seem that way, but it's not the case. https://moco360.media/2016/09/28/since-you-asked-where-exactly-is-north-bethesda/ |
Per Wikipedia, which is definitive here: "The existence of North Bethesda as an actual place with distinct boundaries has been mistakenly questioned by local residents and online commenters.[7] Skeptics frequently dismiss the census-designated place as just a southern portion of Rockville rather than a defined place[8] and the name as a neologism coined by realtors.[9]" 7: https://moco360.media/2016/09/28/since-you-asked-where-exactly-is-north-bethesda/ 8: https://moco360.media/2014/01/21/north-bethesda-or-rockville/ 9: https://mocoshow.com/blog/north-bethesda-and-north-potomac-you-mean-rockville-and-gaithersburg-html/ Thanks to the MoCo Show article also for answering my question of when North Bethesda became a Census-Designated Place: 1980. Unfortunately, the Planning Department website doesn't seem to include a link to the 1970 North Bethesda-Garrett Park master plan, just the 1992 North Bethesda Garrett Park master plan that updated the 1970 plan. Also, while we're at it: the current address of the "church that named Bethesda" is 9400 Rockville Pike: https://moco360.media/2023/06/29/bethesda-meeting-house-deteriorates-falls-apart/ I honestly don't understand why the existence of North Bethesda as a place, which is not Bethesda or Rockville (aka Hungerford's Tavern), seems to upset some people so much. |
No, it hasn't. I grew up in Bethesda in the 80s; some people tried hard for the "North Bethesda" thing, but it was squarely Rockville. |
Yes, it has, notwithstanding your personal opinion about North Bethesda. Why does the existence of North Bethesda, as a place, bother you so much? |
| Woodward will be on par with the schools its directly adjacent to namely WJ, Einstein and BCC. |
