We are waiting (and praying hard) on GT (deferred). DH parents are GT alums and son grew up visiting Atlanta and the campus and loves it.
Son also loves Pitt and we like it as well and he is going there unless GT comes through; both my parents are Pitt alums and we have yet to meet an unhappy Pitt grad or student. Actually likes Pitt more than Rice and Duke (liked the student body and the professors the talked with more and just got that "at home" feeling). Got a vibe of "you're just lucky to be here" from some of the other schools. Looking back we prob should have avoided all this application crap and taken the Pitt acceptance in September and been done. |
That's a shame. What schools is he applying to? Hang in there. |
UVA and VT were in the Washington Post article saying NMS doesn’t hold weight with them. |
Well, there you go. |
well then what actually does hold weight with them? I have been reading the admission blogs from time to time and they some come across as quite condescending. |
Your guidance counselor said that? I'm surprised because it's common knowledge that UVA does not weigh test scores heavily. UVA is much more about rigor of courses and grades in core courses. Dean J says over and over again, they have no problems with TO. |
Why “2 more years of similar ordeal”? Isn’t she graduating in a couple months? |
Yes, you’re right, as our data point proves. Courses were at highest level + community college higher level math and science courses to keep up rigor. |
Your last sentence is so spot on about this process. I hope your dc applied to some score schools like gtown. In any event he will get in somewhere great. These last 2 weeks are super stressful. Btdt last year with same results from UVA. Major blow but bounced back and is now at a school that’s a great fit. |
So sorry!! It's UVA's loss. Your kid has amazing stats and surely many other great options! Being a varsity athlete in even one sport is a major commitment. Band also requires a lot of time. Depth of interest should definitely be valued and considered. Best of luck to you! Worth reading: https://raisingamericans.substack.com/p/deferred-or-rejected-by-a-dream-school |
But wow! You must be proud |
They really do. |
Schools seem to keep changing the rules of the game because they don’t want you to know them exactly. I think it’s because they want students to fame them. |
Wish posters would indicate kid’s race |
