Good luck. It looks like on average 5% of the students on the waitlist come off it. https://www.quora.com/What-are-my-chances-of-getting-off-the-waitlist-at-the-University-of-Virginia#:~:text=Not%20exceptionally%20high%2C%20but%20it,students%20admitted%20from%20the%20waitlist. |
This does not make sense. A deferral only happens in an ED/EA round. If your DD applied SCEA to Princeton, she could not also apply early to Harvard/Yale/Cornell, so could not be deferred from those schools. Also, deferrals do not automatically become waitlists. Some kids are deferred and then accepted or rejected at regular decision time. |
Right. She was waitlisted Harvard, Yale, Cornell. Neither she nor any of her friends got in on Facebook by Day.no RD acceptances at all. All rejections or waitlist. |
Deferred, not waitlisted and yes, am aware of the stats for both. |
What is your problem? Who made you forum police?? |
This is the only relevant "deferral" to this discussion. I'd venture that a SCEA deferral from Princeton is FAR less likely to turn into an acceptance by Ivy Day than a UVA deferral in ED/EA is to become an acceptance by RD in March. It may feel o you like Princeton is a "soft rejection" and maybe they operate that way....but from communications from Dean J at UVA - I think they are more transparent and inform candidates via rejection if they are no longer being considered for an acceptance. Percentages are still difficult for anyone in the UVA RD round but I don't think it's any worse for someone who arrived at RD via deferral vs those who applied as RD from the start. |
Nobody is on the Waitlist yet - the relevant discussion is people who are being considered in the RD round and arrived there via a deferral in the ED/EA rounds. |
Deferrals are not automatically waitlisted. Plenty of kids who are deferred from ED/EA get outright rejections in the RD round. They are not all automatically moved to the waitlist. |
Did they apply RD originally? |
Was just clarifying that she was deferred, not waitlisted, there is a difference, that’s all. Was not policing anything. |
And can students in the College of Arts & Sciences minor in systems engineering, or no? What do you think? Too niche of a question? Anyone know?? |
No one cares |
I believe the answer is no but I’d call the School of Arts & Sciences to make sure |
Good luck everyone! |
For students who are deferred, they're likely deferred for midterm grades, right? So if midterm grades show all As, do you think they'll get in? |
