For those requesting stats, 1500 SAT, 3.8 at rigorous Maryland private, highest possible rigor classes, female, good ecs but not exceptional, no hooks. |
3.8 uw |
Congrats to your daughter. |
Co-worker's child is doing this now. Year has gone by fast and has been good transition - kind of like prep school - before heading to main campus. May not be for everyone but they have no complaints and are excited about next year. |
ED Deferred Rejected. 1580; 4.3 GPA; 4 yr varsity athlete & band. Our guess is ECs were weak link. |
Brava! |
Wow. I’m sorry! |
Thanks for sharing. Is the kid doing CS or Math related majors. I'm leaning towards UMD as other posters mentioned instead of going this route. With 1590/4.4 gpa and internships and good ECs but no national or state level awards. Need to figure what went wrong as other decisions with Georgia Tech and similar didn't go well. Need to prepare for DD for next two years of similar ordeal. |
Deferred and now waitlist. Getting frustrated with this process; multiple deferrals and now 2 waitlists... what if most other deferrals are waitlists? How can you start to make any kind of plans? Seems like a giant game and we are tired of playing. Applied to a good balance of schools.
790M/780V SAT 4.0UW/4.7W All the usual APs with 4-5s Strong application with true passion project and 4 year community leadership/volunteer positions Great LORs Counselors are stumped Overall just a strong, smart, passionate student who has worked his tail off in high school and is NOT feeling the love. Maybe bc last name is literally at the end of the alphabet and people get tired reading apps??? Who knows. It's hard to respect the game when you have no idea what the rules are. |
-+1. Good for your kid. Move on |
You are justified to be frustrated. It’s a demoralizing process, for sure. What other schools are you waiting to hear from? |
GPA is low for UVA unless that is top 5% in the class. |
Biggest gamble/loss was to use the (strength of the) ED option on UVA. Well, on to the $80,000 school. |
Not if you are Va in-state |
Hmm, don’t know the class rank. Not placing blame at all but guidance counselor all but called it a sure thing because of the NMS commendation. |
