1. An appropriate school calendar without as many disruptions, which are harmful to children. Fairfax County has the least amount of 5-day school weeks than any other school district in the nation.
2. The use of actual textbooks, and not laptops, in early education.
3. Allocating resources for more robust vocational education opportunities.
4. Reforming Special Education
5. Professionalizing the Principal Pipeline, and have recruitment and vetting handled by Human Relations, and not an outside firm.
6. Increase pay to teachers
7. Supporting teachers with discipline issues they encounter in the classroom

Do they support banning books in school libraries or do they allow our professional librarians to make choices pursuant to the checks and balances of the current regulations?

So you support graphic novels showing sexual acts?

It doesn't matter if I, or the PP, do. What does matter is YOU not decided that for me.

I don't want censorship on either side - but that doesn't mean I vote D anymore. I don't find the Ds to support free speech any more than the Rs. In my ES there was a specific issue with a teacher reading a book with the N word to teach the kids about it - that was a left issue of censorship. In real life - not culture wars on the media - I haven't seen R book banning in my local schools.

Not a good example. A) that was in ES. And B) use of the N word is highly offensive, and potentially racist. I say potentially b/c even if used in a way that is educational, there will always be those who, quite reasonably, feel it should never be used. And, in an ES setting, they're not wrong. So what you're describing isn't censorship, as you are well aware.

I am hopeful that Kyle McDaniels, former R who left the party when Trump took it over, and is now running as a Dem could be the moderate voice I am looking for.

So far the R candidates are all culture warriors and seem very connected with Youngkin who has a desire to gut public schools in favor of vouches.

Rs want MAGA. You know what that means.

I think there is a real Democratic machine in Fairfax County - basically if you want to be on the D sample ballot - you need to sell out to the party. No one has independent thoughts anymore.

What you "think" does not mean anything. You've offered nothing but speculation.

Republicans are taking away women’s right to health care when pregnant.

They also want to privatize education.

I’m not willing to trust in a republican school
Board candidate yet given their past behavior.

I have voted for r and d before but will not vote r in the current climate. Their goal is to undermine government.

This is why I’m not voting D anymore - past behavior - I saw what I needed to see with the all D decision on school closures and they completely lost my trust.

So schools are now providing the daycare you wanted- the current behavior is to have in person public schools. Not sure I see your point. It is more like you are voting out of anger than current behavior. For me republicans are still demonstrating the same behavior but for you the dems in charge are holding in person school and have been for the last 2 years so you are basing your vote on anger.

Turns out I was right all along and kids learn better in person, and it's not just about the babysitting. Who would have thunk it?!?!?!??!

More overuse of punctuation and snark. Kind of making the PP;s point. You don't have a position. You're just pissed at some events from the past.

DP, but recent history shows that the process employed by the FCDC results in candidates who are less qualified than the alternatives. To wit, in 2019:

Abrar Omeish rather than Ilryong Moon.

Laura Jane Cohen rather than Robert Walter.

Karl Frisch rather than Jung Byun.

The main attributes the successful candidates had were their allegiance to a far-left agenda and/or perceived fundraising ability among a specific, high-donor community. If that's not the product of a local machine, what is?

A reaction to having a thug in the white house.

- moderate D

Are you trying to portray crazy Harry Jackson as a moderate?

Fairfax voters had little to do with putting Trump in the White House, and we deserved better than Omeish and Frisch, who are just embarrassingly bad. Cohen isn't as bad as those two are, and occasionally shows signs of intelligent life, although not necessarily with sufficient frequency to warrant elevation to the House of Delegates.

But I think they realize that people are paying more attention now. I know I am. Most of us knew very little about the SB before Covid.

When will there be an official line up of who is running for what?

For the at-large seats, McDaniel, Moon, and Davis seem like a giant upgrade to me over the three current at-large members. Keys Gamarra and Omeish are ridiculously bad, and if Braddock wants to keep Sizemore Heizer that's their call.

There are some others potentially running for at-large seats but I know nothing about them.
