9 Mcps Antisemitic incidents since Friday

Anonymous
This is actually good news. These incidents have gone on for. along time and MCPS paid no attention. Now they are.

I am a former Westbrook parent who reached out to a past principal (not the current one) about racist and antisemitic graffiti several years ago and was told it was none of my business b/c it was a vandalism issue and would be handled as such, not a hate issue.

The principal told me that the community/parents would not be notified, nor would the higher ups at MCPS.

So I am pleased to see that this stuff is taken more seriously now.

See if it goes beyond platitudes and RJ.

You mean time for MCPD to step it up. MCPS job is to educate students not to dole out justice.

When kids are violent, you call the cops. Done.

Also, MCPS lacks the means to prosecute hate crimes, whereas MCPD does.

Those students didn’t just engage in hate speech; they named fellow students they wanted to kill and described how to do it. Why does MCPS have a policy that allows such behavior to result in a temporary suspension from an extracurricular activity?! That’s beyond the pale.

I think if a student wore a MAGA hat to class the punishment would be more severe (I'm being facetious here, I don't think there is any punishment for political satire in class but I could be wrong). My point is I wish there was consistency, its appropriate to stop Trumpism hate crimes but the goal is to stop all hate. No one should get a pass else the haters will just migrate to the side that condones their hate.

Let go of maga. Trump has been gone for several years. Biden has not done anything to curb violence and hate crimes. Violence and hate crimes are up. What is mcps and the police going to do about it to keep the students and staff safe?

their point is that they would take right wing antisemitism much more seriously when they should treat it seriously no matter who it comes from.

Not sure if MCPD can intervene on MCPS campus whenever someone calls. MCPD's CEO and MCPS's cluster coordinator are liaisons, with MCPS making the final determination whether to contact MCPD? If anyone knows more about the process, please post.

Honestly, I think it is better to not give more attention to the issue. If we make a big deal about it, I think it would actually encourage kids to mess around more as an act of rebellion.

There is a huge lack of boundaries in school right now, so kids are doing more extreme acts in order to rebel and stand out.

Would you say it was just kids messing around if they were targeting black people or Hispanics or really any other minority?

Describing it this way really minimizes what is going on. These kids know what they’re doing.

Wondering if this attention has been somewhat counterproductive, possibly leading to increased incidents? Similar to why media doesn’t report the names of shooters, to discourage copycats from seeking fame in this way.

If it were anti-white or anti-male, it would have been presented to the students and faculty by a consultant paid by local tax dollars via MCPS to promote the agenda!
So should we ignore all hate crimes? Or just the ones against Jews.

Not drawing more attention than necessary is not the same as ignoring all hate crimes.

As a Jew, I’m really disturbed by your approach to this.
face it. People only care about antisemitism if it comes from the right.

I've received 3 emails from MCPS on this topic in the last two weeks and there have been at least a dozen local news stories. Tell me again about "no one cares."
if it were anti black or anti hispanic in nature it would have been national headlines and punishing the culprits wouldn’t have been ruled out

Of course, they can. Their jurisdiction is Moco.

Well that's crazy because her statement directly said that this is how they would proceed for any incidents of hate or bias against any group.

That’s not how it plays out though and you know it.

It is and I have no reason not to believe her.

People have pointed to harsher punishments given out following incidents targeting other groups. Just admit you don’t want to be an ally to Jewish people.
worst part is many Jews don’t even care and are fine ignoring antisemitism unless it comes from the right

I don’t think that’s true. I think they’re scared to admit we have very few allies on either side.

MAGA Republicans are huge Israel/Judaism supporters because of the teachings of evangelical and other types of Christianity. But I don't think that the vast majority of the American Jewish community really wants them as "allies."

They support the existence of Israel in which the same way that 19th century Northern Whites supported the existence of Liberia and other schemes for free Black Americans colonizing Africa. It’s not out of respect for sovereignty or understanding the need for a safe place. It’s to further their own ends.

This is a flabbergastingly ill informed if not bigoted comment. Bringing the topic back to the alleged Whitman incident, compared to other events that occurred in MoCo schools and the demonstrably robust response by the school system to crush such hateful behavior, this tepid response is almost a tacit condoning of antisemitism. How do such actions demonstrate respect for sovereignty and need for safe spaces of those students named to be placed on a burn list??

Well when you have the Democratic Party encouraging endless Migrants from Central America you are bound to have their children pick up socialist bigotry. Just look at the Socialist President of Honduras who came to power using Anti-Semitic rhetoric. The kind people of MoCo will claim the source below is biased (daily mail is a Rupert Murdoch vehicle) but what else would explain such behavior in a leftist place?

I attended the new MCJEA - Montgomery County Jewish Educators Alliance Meeting today and was so impressed. This group was founded by an elementary Principal and a small group of like 18 staff from all 3 unions and central office and school based was added to do initial work. The meeting today provided opportunity for all voices to be heard and valued. They shared purpose and have planned a couple of events in the next couple months. Yes they will work to address antisemitism but also looking to provide resources to MCPS for instruction that are age appropriate. The meeting really was great and I felt like this group understands the urgency of the work and the importance of collaborating and not just say words but create actions too!
