I think that’s a new punishment, post Whitman incident. Principals take their directions on suspensions from above. My guess is the JCRC told them to hold people accountable if they want to see change. I support the suspensions. Students need to know what to expect when they deface property and are hateful, and it can’t be a conversation only.

Four days suspensions are not mandated in any way. A student at my school received no consequences.

Can you provide a citation for this? I'd prefer not to buy into hearsay for these matters.

This is not hearsay; it is first hand knowledge. I can’t give the name of the school, unfortunately (because of having a job there…)

Both can be true. You may not have given consequences and the consequences subsequently were changed.

This isn’t schrodinger's cat. The child was not suspended.

When you refuse to provide any concrete evidence, and the word of an anonymous poster doesn't really cut it, it amounts to hearsay.

they can't ruin my false narrative since I won't have anything to complain about!

They didn’t say that kid was suspended. They said that since that point in time, they might have changed the assigned consequence. If that same kid made the same mistake today, perhaps they’d be suspended.

Good to know.

If you know of specific antisemitic incidents (whether your family or someone else's), or have evidence of MCPS providing different punishments for students who engage in racist or other hateful behaviors, please respond. I work with families on addressing these issues.

The course deal with hate crime MCPS charter is to educate children, not dispense justice.

When MCPS refuses to punish 7 year old students who beat their teachers, why wouldn’t you expect them to destroy public property and disrespect whatever faith or color you are?

I’m sorry, you people are insane. You don’t care, until you are the target. If you want to change anything, you start with effective consequences for EVERY crime.

MCPS doesn't have the authority to punish or judge guilt. These are matters for MCPD and the courts.

Liar. Schools absolutely have the authority to enforce consequences for egregious behavior.

Why is PP defending school lawlessness?
That’s what the school administrators do.
