I suspect those are the ones who have lavish parties for kids and make sure to announce the invitation list to everyone using name tag on clothes. Kids wear it in school after parties and it's a horrible way to divide kids. |
If you have options, go for some other school. |
+1 Tilden area may also get rezoned as part of DCC at high school level. Something to be aware about. |
Typical DCUM to make a dig at the DCC when there’s clearly plenty of disturbing issues at this W feeder. |
We found her to be excellent. |
More on this "name tags on clothes" please. WJ parent, but not a Tilden parent. |
$50 bar and bat mitzvah hoodies and sweat pants personalized with not only the name of the kid having the simcha but the name of the guest. The invited kids all wear them to school the following Monday, making it obvious who was excluded. |
No, kid went to a Silver Spring ES. To the incoming 6th grade parent PP, it's fine. Parents are way over-involved and want teachers and admin to drop everything and cater to their personal demands and questions. There was a meeting about who-knows-what recently (it got off-topic fairly quickly, so I don’t recall the original intent), but so many parents were up in arms about their children being "interrogated" over the anti-Semetuc graffiti. They seriously didn't want their kids to be asked I they knew anything about who had done it or made to "tattle" on their friends. It was... a strange reaction, in my opinion. |
This happens at all middle schools with a high jewish population. I do not understand why this bar and bat mitzvahs are bigger than weddings and the swag is so much. I don't like the hoodies either and it is definitely worn that Monday to show who went. Not that social media doesn't show it by Saturday at 8pm. |

NP here, agreeing with the picture painted by the quoted poster. My kid is also at Tilden, 7th grade. |
This year’s group is terrible though. More than usual. Mean to everyone. Bully in school and on social media. Backstabbing friends. Like another poster said, it’s the parents. |
Parents pass values to kids. |
To the parents who bring up the hoodies/swag - how many kids in the school are invited to each Bat/Bar Mitzvah? Aren't there 300+ kids for each grade? Surely the hoodie/swag wearing kids are a small percentage of the school. |
My kid has been invited to some and I would say 40-80 kids per event. It’s not always a small percentage. |
