My high stat class of 2022’s safeties were UMD and Lafayette.

good to hear. Trying to convince my high stats DC who wants to major in CS that they will be fine at UMD.

DC is at a magnet: 1580 SAT, all 5s on APs except the foreign language one (bombed that one), unw GPA 4.0.

UMD is a safety to DC. I told DC UMD isn't really a safety for their stats, but that's what they think. And I think because it's a safety, and also the location is in our "backyard", DC doesn't want to go there. But I told them they'd be dumb to pass it up, especially if they get Banneker Key.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe with those stats UMD is a safety for CS? IDK.

DP - UMD is a safety for your kid no matter the major. While your kid's stats are excellent, I'm not sure about BK. All kids considered for BK have almost perfect stats. What is his wt GPA and how many APs has he taken? Our kids won BK twice - one partial, the other full. I can't tell you how nice it has been.

Weighted GPA is 4.77. What are his chances for BK? Even partial?

PP you are responding to. Short answer is -- who knows? Your kid sounds like have good enough stats for consideration but I do believe BK selection committee looks for something more than good stats. Selection is not linear. Good luck.

PP- it is hard to tell who gets the Banneker Key. I feel like my kids had very similar stats. My older kid got the partial. My young kid had higher weighted GPA and 1500 had got into UMD honors and didn’t receive merit aid at all.

Swat isn’t a target for anyone unless you are a recruited athlete or urm

All of the immediately above schools are reaches.

My high stats kid had UMBC, UVM, and Providence College as their safeties last years.

Safeties: Cornell, Penn, Dartmouth
Targets: Harvard, Yale, Princeton
Reaches: UVA (in state)

UVA is the only reach because it is the best school and the most elite.

No, not really. It's like Emorys version of Barnard. It has a 15% acceptance rate versus Emorys 11%.

Are Wake and Colgate really safeties? I have a kid at STA who is middle of the class. Those are his targets with Colgate being a high Target. Are they easier to get in than we think?
