My DH was one of 4 and said the same. They had a lot of help and MIL was super loving, but it’s pretty clear they didn’t really have individual relationships with their parents based on what DH remembers, what childhood details MIL remembers, and their current relationships. They “grandparent” the same way and I have no complaints, but also can see how it would be different as a parent-child versus grandparent-grandchild dynamic. To each his own.
