Political Discussion
They probably have one of those disorders where people steal things for the thrill of it. I can't remember what it's called. Why do you continue to call them him. They aren't medically transitioning but that doesn't mean they aren't nonbinary. |
Exactly this! They only care about this because the person is trans. If this person was cisgender and appointed by Biden, they wouldn't have said anything. I'm pretty sure there must be someone that biden appointed that is cis and committed theft and it hasn't blown up like this. It's really unlikely this is the only person in two years that has stolen. |
I strongly disagree. If a cisgender government employee had sported a pink mohawk, dressed super flamboyantly, stole luggage from the airport and then used it for subsequent travel, the story would be very similar. This individual is just not what you expect from a political appointee. Also, this administration is so bland compared to the last that it makes this person stand out even more. Had this happened when they worked under the last administration, it would have just been another item on the checklist of circus acts, alongside the off-the-rails Oval Office press event with Jim Brown and Kanye West and the elevation of the cuckoo anti-vax “doctor” who talked about alien DNA and believes endometriosis is caused by having sex with demons in one’s dreams. P.S. Do you think it’s really common for political appointees to commit thefts? I’m not talking petty things, like taking a pen or some paper clips home from the office. I’m talking about something on par with stealing a stranger’s suitcase full of belongings, within public view. Your comment that there must be cis appointees committing similar thefts caught me off guard — not because I think cis people wouldn’t do it, but I think very few people would do it, period. |
Some people in general engage in theft and fraud. Why is stealing a bag from a person or passing a fraudulent $20 bill to a shop is considered a serious issue when politicians who "steal" millions of dollars from many people or country is not seen as thousand times outrageous? Why is this story such a big deal in RW folks mind when they have ignored the millions and millions dollars fraud by GOP politicians and political appointees? We cannot talk seriously about law and order until we have consistent and varying degrees of outrage for all kind of moral/legal deviations. This seems like a selective outrage. |
No, it's because of the trans issue. There were plenty of thefts during the Trump admin. |
Exactly. |
|
The federal government had millions of employees.
I guarantee that 365 days out of the year, a federal employee is arrested or indicted for a crime not related to their job: shoplifting/theft, drunk driving, domestic abuse, writing a bad check, getting in a bar fight, etc. The only reason this guy is getting any media play is because he’s (1) transgender, (2) he has a prolific social media presence, and (3) the rightwing has highlighted him a lot in the past 18 months. Federal employees reflect America, the good and bad. They are just people. |
| Who cares about some random luggage theft by a random federal employee? Is this guy a cabinet head? |
You want the person who is in charge of our spent nuclear material stealing from regular Americans? |
Do you? |
| Remember the cis kids that stole Paris Hilton's clothes, money, and jewelry? They made a movie about them. That was millions worth that they stole and she was a rich celebrity. This apparently equals that because trans. |
No, but this person appears to be in the process of losing their job. So there’s not much to be outraged about. |
Are they losing their job? They still haven’t resigned? Has this woman been compensated for her loss of luggage and clothing? Brinton is worth $1 million dollars, why is he stealing clothes from women? Has CNN covered it yet? |
There is absolutely no way the Biden admin is going to keep a felon as an appointee. What I am picturing happening is that a claim has been advanced by someone—maybe the thief, maybe a particularly defense-minded HR functionary, maybe some misguided but well-meaning politico—that this act is the result of a mental health disorder that is ADA-protected, and that they are minding their Ps and Qs for that reason just to avoid the bs fights they will have to have about it if it becomes popularly known that anyone in that proximity to power tried to argue that. |
Lots of felons are mentally ill. That doesn’t stop them from being sent to jail or being reported on by news outlets. So we can all agree the news stories about Brinton were suppressed, and continue to be? |
