+1. Seriously I grew up here and the whining from transplants is unbelievable. My friends who grew up here are super chill people. |
PP here. I should make clear that I don't mean all transplants; I know tons of chill transplants. But seriously I don't know any locals who get so wound up about things the way some transplants do. Also I've lived in other major cities and some are way worse than DC. I wonder if some of these people complaining haven't lived in a larger city? |
Exactly. They all travel to warm climates in the winter. |
+one more here! Love New Yorkers, the healthcare, and just everything... |
Same. I grew up here and don't feel this rat race at all. I work hard and take pride in what I do but I've never felt the need to compete in the "rat race." There's more to life than that. I live in the further out suburbs..maybe that's why? I think my neighbors and I have a pretty good balance. Family first and then work. The few people who I know who are into the rat race always seem so high-strung and they're not from around here. They're the people who have to live in a certain neighborhood, drive a certain car, go to specific schools, and name-drop as much as they can. It's very obvious. |
+1 The type of people who enjoy living here tend to not be my cup of tea. They are too competitive, in a bad way - and extremely insecure. Who needs it? |
+1 NYers are my favorite people. Not a coincidence that people in this area tend to be so threatened by them. |
+1 So gross. |
Except when Putin drives his tanks in ….. |
Just move. |
I wouldn't generalize. I moved here for my first job 30 years ago, and I cannot relate to the OP and those in agreement at all. My friends, neighbors, the parents at my kids school are all chill, including more recent arrivals. It's just a personality quirk of people like OP, I think. |
Hmm, most European countries are puny, insignificant. Equivalent to one of our states. US still contributes to their defense and security. And everything is made in China. So what do they make? Why, they make happiness. La-di-da. |
What neighborhood do you live in? I moved here around then too and don't love the culture here now (it was better when young and single). Maybe it's a suburb vs city thing? |
So you agree about European superiority? |
Yes, the superiority they’ve achieved on the backs of others. |
