First, the situation is so fluid (ex. Kersh bridge) that Moscow is having trouble trying to spin it. On one hand they want to suppress any news about the extent of the damage so they don't freak out their troops in Ukraine. On the other hand Putin himself is shooting off his mouth blaming Ukraine - giving Ukraine the upper hand as being even more effective militarily (the original storyline was Russians were achieving victories all over the place, remember?).

Second, this could be an indicator that there are big issues in the Kremlin. They way they probably work is they need official material approved by Moscow, but right now Moscow is in chaos. Arrests, power struggles - I'm sure everyone is afraid to put out any propaganda at all for fear of offending someone.

I hope and believe that plenty is going on behind the scenes and that there’s a pleasant third option. If Putin doesn't go nuclear, being called a "Russian" will probably be like being called a "Nazi" - at least for the next 50'ish years.

Russia has lots of the smaller nukes (I am not weapons expert, but I believe they are called tactical nukes). We no longer due in any meaningful quantity. This is based on several recent reports on podcasts and so forth. The apocalyptic situation is prob less of a concern than for those in Eastern Europe. But, obviously, if you're to be affected that is a big issue for you.

Putin would be a pariah, however. And it is my understanding that China has an agreement to defend Ukraine in this situation? Is that current information? It is not in his interest IF HE IS EVEN REMOTELY SANE (which he may not be).

I don't see where any of this is Biden's game. So the OP is bizarre to me.

Even if Putin used "tactical" nukes, the fallout would hit western Russia, not too far from Moscow. This would be the fastest way to topple Putin, IMO.

This is what I don't understand. I mean, Putin can't change the earth's rotation and prevailing winds.
