Actually, those were known well in advance of this press conference. Abbott also said that there was no warning. Right after the kid posted he was going to kill his grandmother, he killed his grandmother and he was going to kill at a school. Seems like warning to me - granted it was less than an hour but don’t pretend there wasn’t warning. Abbott also started with the shooter was a high school drop out and failed to mention how to obtained not one, but two, assault rifles and also posted photos of those on social media. That seems like warning to me.

Beto is not done because there is a long way to the election. But this will play only to his base which in Texas is 25% of the vote. The middle in Texas is about 30%. That group leans right center. This will not play with them. This was a bad day for Beto. But other events may turn the tide. If I were running against him in Texas I would wait until September and go up with an ad that has Beto crashing in and the mayor saying this was no place for this conduct and Texas deserves better.
