Should FCPS Reassign New Affordable Housing from Marshall to Langley?

Anyone?

Why are you asking others - why don't YOU bring it up?

I was asking how to go about it which a very helpful PP answered above. Chill out lady.

Definitely should be Langley, especially with Langley projected to be under-capacity. Just logistically makes sense. The fact it would add some SES diversity to Langley is a bonus, doesn't need to be the driving reason. The only issue I can foresee is the split-feeder from MS and not sure if the capacity issues there can be similarly resolved as easily, but that seems secondary.

There is no reason not to move the kids to Cooper as well. Cooper has a much lower enrollment than Kilmer.

This would be a no-brainer but for some of the two-faced liars and hypocrites on the School Board.

I’d love to see some of the self-styled progressive Great Falls Democrats like Jennifer Adeli and Sujatha Hampton take this up with the School Board. But somehow they always claim to be ignorant about such matters as boundaries. It’s probably not a coincidence they are so selective in their interests.

So my guess is Tyson’s is not the only area with built up. It’s everywhere. They have talked about this mythical new western region high school for years. And now everywhere around Tyson’s, there is built up. It’s good bc we need the housing but damn how can these people not think ahead about impact. And no, I don’t mean the silly Dunn Loring ES that isn’t solving anything.

My hope is that Covid at least made it so that people just don’t blindly vote for SB members anymore. That’s my hope. The problem is that the only vocal people trying to hold SB accountable are nutty themselves. Instead of blabbing about right wing talking points, call them out on their hypocrisy.

Both of them live in the Forestville ES area. That’s the school that really really needs to be returned to Herndon High School. The neighborhood that SH lives in is 2 miles from Herndon and is against traffic so maybe 10 mins tops. It’s 11 miles from Langley and can easily take 45 mins in traffic.

Herndon is full.

And Abrar Omeish is concerned about interested students at AP schools not having access to IB at Marshall, which of course becomes even less likely if they load GCM up with more affordable housing.

Mark Frisch won’t care. He’s just a puppet. Don’t get your hopes up. He needs to be recalled or voted out asap. Horrid human who cares more about his own gains than the children he represents. We failed by voting him in!!

When did Frisch change his first name?

There are multiple projects going on in that area. The Sheraton one will be mostly efficiencies, and isn’t being marketed as “affordable housing” (other than a small # of affordable dwelling units required by the County) but bc the units will be so small, it will be affordable just because of the size per square foot. You can read about this at https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2022/02/25/jbg-sheraton-tysons-hotel.html. This will be marketed to young professionals and wont be much of a worry for NIMBYs re school attendance zones.

Then, there is the Dominion West project linked in the Inside Nova article. This is an awesome project that will help fill some serious needs for affordable housing in the area. This is the project that the NIMBYs have to worry about re brown kids going to their schools.

All schools in Fairfax county have a substantial number of brown children.

You people act like it’s 1955 or 75 or even 2005.

Times have changed folks.

Herndon is going to have a lot of extra capacity very soon.

Just an FYI - those buildings are already zoned to a certain school because they are already in a boundary. The school board doesn’t have to do anything technically.

How so?

Well, duh. The issue is whether they are just going to sit back passively and let Marshall get more overcrowded or use some of the vacant capacity at Langley. But maybe they don’t lift a finger, which would be yet another reason to replace the current School Board.
