Nope - I'm Asian - this is well-covered in Asian/feminist culture - so gotta call oink oink on your sexist BS. |
Its a marriage of two people who love, attract and value each other. Isn't that the whole point of every marriage? |

One thing a couple may may want to talk about are aging parents. Do they come to live with you? Do they live on the same block? And How much time do you spend with them over your preference?
If not discussed, issues and dissatisfaction arise —later in life. American culture has more boundaries & different expectations around parents. The situation when the kids are young (babysitters are great!) is completely different later. If you ask around or read, you’ll find examples of what works. Something to consider. |
White woman married to an Asian guy here and IMO there’s definitely some truth to this. Neither my DH nor anyone in his family ever had any expectations that I’d act like a proper Korean wife/DIL. Of course I love my in laws and treat them respectfully, but I don’t even come close to meeting the bare minimum bar of what they’d expect from a Korean woman who should “know better”. So much “bad” behavior from me gets hand-waved away because I’m white. Making a good faith attempt to learn the Korean language and cook a few Korean dishes is already exceeding baseline expectations in their eyes. That’s just bare minimum table stakes for a Korean woman! I totally understand why American women of Korean descent would rather not place all those burdensome expectations on themselves, when they can so easily escape it by marrying someone from a different background. |
