Stock market is not tanking. Are you nuts? Tanking is 2008. If anything this is a minor correction which happens all the time. There is no fear in the US. It will be a pain in the ass to put 500,000 American troops in the NATO countries but that is what we will do.

You are right that they are bluffing but they don’t want that much, just removal of some sanctions and the go ahead for nord stream 2

That went out the window when they expanded their demands to include sacrificing Romania and Bulgaria.

It’s much easier to de escalate when some demands are clearly ridiculous

It's actually harder because it's so over the top that there's no place to begin. It also shows rhat there's no good faith and that negotiations are pointless. It was such an incompetent move.

Russia will manufacture a grey zone conflict using cyber and information operations. That will create an excuse to escalate using PMCs for kinetic warfare, with support from volunteers they've mobilized in their Western District. The conscripts who are there are mainly for logistics support to ensure they can hold land up to the Dnieper River. Then, the Kremlin will deploy a stabilization force to "bring the peace." -OSD Analyst

Russia is banning crypto... as they are on the brink of being cut off from the entire global SWIFT banking network? Wow.

And of course everyone will know it and Russia will have zero plausible deniability.

Why would that matter?

and then the insurgency begins along with max sanctions and a full fledged NATO buildup in Poland and Romania. It'd be hilarious if Turkey closed the Bosporus after Russia deploys all its ships to the Black Sea to support this move.

Germans are doing everything they can to satisfy the Russians. Fritz just wants his natural gas.

No, they surprisingly aren't. The plan is backfiring.

Just STOP already.

Along with trying to alienate every possible ally we have in standing up against Russia and China...

Today's right wing seems hellbent on destroying the US and rolling out the red carpet for a Russian and Chinese takeover. The right wing's leaders are destructive cynical weasels actively involved in this, and the other half are witless dupes not capable of understanding any of this, but gleefully going along with it, because they think it's "owning the libs" or something.

Russia cannot fight the US. They probably could only fight NATO without the US to a short term tie and long term loss. They are not a superpower. They can roll the Ukraine. They want no part of the US because Putin who is punching above his weight will be exposed. But he will force us to a massive buildup in the NATO countries before he backs down.

Very cool time lapse of the Russian military build up….but also highlights some of Russia’s weakness:
