Data today 7pm

Wow they got almost every school in the red within 24 hours! That was faster than I expected! So their plan worked to shift to virtual. Deny education to our kids… another year down the drain.

This! Why is MCPS counting more than 14 days when it said 14 days?

+1 MCPS has already been closed for two weeks. The numbers are not spread in schools. Cases reported before winter break would be cleared to return from quarantine.

Another 14 days is a MONTH out of the school building. MCPS is a rats nest mess. Just more trickery to deny children in person instruction.

No you don't. Community school = school spread. Omicron is 10 times more transmissible than Delta. It's not up for debate that Omicron spreads in schools, particularly during the elbow-to-elbow unmasked lunch.

DP, but Omicron spread in absolute terms is not the issue. The issue is whether the consequences of Omicron spread *specific to schools* outweighs the (massive) negative consequences of virtual learning to kids.

I mean, if you think COVID is bad for kids, wait until you see the effects of chronic stress. I wish I were kidding, but as a licensed mental health professional with expertise in clinical neuroscience, I’m more than a little terrified. Just because you don’t see it now doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.

Problem is that you can't have schools if there are no staff or bus drivers anyway

can someone please post a link to where you're seeing the colors associated with each school? TIA

Wait so all the red schools are in session tomorrow? so what's the point of this entire pointless exercise?

Yes. Pandemics are bad for everyone who is vulnerable. We should do something to control this one at some point.

Are they not sending out the emails anymore about cases in your school? I see our school has added several cases since yesterday but I have received no email notifications.

No, you don't either. My husband is a doctor, and he sees the hospital saturation, WHICH KILLS PEOPLE, through poor standard of care. MD hospitals are now immune from lawsuits because of the emergency order. You can die of your car accident or heart attack, PP, without any kind of compensation, because Covid patients are clogging up the hospitals because you were concerned about anxiety and depression and didn't want to close schools. Saving lives is more important than anything else.

Look at the first spreadsheet posted here (the 14-day one): https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/dashboard/

It's all centralized in the link that was shared above. When you have 50+ new cases in one day, it's not practical to do it piecemeal.

Pretty sure they’re using criteria from the state, which says 14 days.

cdc shortened the quarantine to 10 days remember? So why 14 days?

Because the CDC recommendation is just that, a recommendation, is nonbinding and the local board of health sets the actual policy.

You don’t need a notification. No one was at school to transmit covid.

"They" didn't "get" anything. Omicron did. Grow up.

If your husband really is a physician, he should read the literature that indicates covid does not contribute to community spread, and you should not spreading misinformation that is harming children especially those with less means than you.

Yeah, if only it were as easy as COVID above all else. It’s not, though. Scientists know that, even if some healthcare providers (understandably, given what they do) are too biased to realize it.
