You sound deeply insecure. No one here has been talking about needing validation - just you. What an exhausting trait. |
No more insecure than bashing CNU. And that’s the point of the post. *woosh* |
| DS graduated from CNU this past spring. We were members of the CNU Presidents Circle (Donor/Parents Leadership Group). I can tell you my DS chose CNU over JMU, MWU, and GMU. We didn't chase stats, we chose the best fit for our DS. DS chose to go directly into a job in his field (Major: French Minor: Linguistics Minor: International Culture and Business); he is has his own apt. and totally supports himself...and is able to fund his savings. His GF chose to go to Georgetown for her MS. Lots of CNU students are solid academically, they have to be to graduate as the CNU core curriculum is more challenging than most VA schools. 2 years of foreign language is a requirement to graduate regardless of your major along with many other required disciplines that serve to broaden their mind and help them think for themselves. CNU is not as conservative as some here would lead you to believe. OP, I would listen to folks that actually have experience with the school and do your own research. We visited each school, met with department heads, DS sat in classes, and some professors actually involved DS in French class discussions. CNU is a hidden gem for some, not for all but for those parents that have kids with a lot of potential and they need a fostering environment to grow, then CNU is a good place to consider. |
Your riposte is not at witty as you think. Attacking those well-regarded schools reflects poorly on you and reeks of desperation… but carry on I guess? |
Which one hit closest to home? |
I’m glad CNU was a good fit for you son. This is a helpful post—our DS is looking at various Virginia schools, including CNU. Thanks for sharing your son’s (and your) experience. |
A) you’re wrong. You to Wikipedia. At least 18 are listed B) even if you were correct, could that have something to do with CNU bring a relatively new school compared to W&M, UVA and VT? |
+1 And C) Who cares? The PP is obviously a very shallow, insecure individual. |
Agreed. I don’t understand these badgers, except when it’s sour grapes because they or their kid didn’t get in. I know a fabulous young man who went to CNU and us about to graduate from a T3 law school |
“Bashers^^. Autocorrect |
CNU is harder to get into than ODU. Also the immediate area around CNU is fairly typical suburban. There's a Panera and Chipotle across the street, movie theater and grocery stores nearby, a mall not too far away. The Navy bases are a bit further from campus. I worry after seeing this about crime stemming from the bases in NN, although the campus tour guide noted there are gates and security. Would love to hear from anyone with more knowledge of the school besides the pretty buildings. Is it much less diverse than JMU, they seem fairly similar. |
OP It's a fine school. We know 1 kid there now that loves it and is in the honors college. Another one just accepted there and is thrilled. DC toured there as well as many state schools (during pandemic, drive throughs). He didn't want to apply to GMU, UWM, wouldn't go see VaTech (not sure why), not UVA as he didn't have stats, as well as others we were able to see during the summer. He applied to CNU and JMU (and we forced a D3). Got into all three. He chose JMU over CNU due to size and location: he's an introvert but wanted a huge school, and he liked the mountains over the flats and didn't like the area around CNU. We would have been just as happy for him to go to CNU. Kids there just seem happy and our friend's son is pre-law and doing well. I grew up in that area and have seen the school go from a community college (in the 80's) to a university, so I really doubted it based on that history. But we were really impressed with the tour and our friends son's experience there. |
Rigid core curriculum is such an outdated framework. It’s the height of stupidity to force an engineering student to take two years of a useless foreign language that they will never master. |
Amusing, I guess Langley AFB and Fort Eustis are now ground zero for the perpetuation gang violence and crime in Newport News. All those Fighter Pilots and Soldiers are sparking raging crime at an alarming rate... |
So being well rounded is stupid? OK, then. |
