Chances APS goes virtual after break?

Go away, stalker.

Arlington Education Matters group on Facebook. You should go join right now. It's a good way to keep an eye on what the nuttiest people in Arlington are lobbying for. Also, there is occasionally some helpful information... but it's mostly a grab your popcorn situation.

I’m a teacher and I think I’ll pass. Thanks though. 😉

Can't wait for Youngkin to end the mask mandate! My kids will be maskless on the first day.

Got an AG coming in who's threatening to sue any school district that closes and a majority in each legislative chamber that will be vehemently against school closing. Bring on January 15th!

Here they only shut down for a few weeks when the virus first started and then they shut down for 6 weeks when delta hit. Otherwise people are living their lives pretty normally. Majority of the population os vaccinated. Testing is widespread. People take rapid tests regularly - two or three times a week and PCR tests every few weeks or so. Tests are widely available. Anytime ppl meet up with friends or family they take a test. The government is very transparent. There is an app. Everyone knows how many new cases there are a day… rate of covid… how many are being treated in the hospital. There is a color system. Green means can go to places with no restrictions and be unmasked outdoors. Yellow (which was instituted today) means that you need to wear a mask in and outdoors (unless eating) and that you need to show your vaccine card (also in the app) to enter places. We went to a restaurant today and showed our card (literally took two seconds) and walked right in. People aren’t like the crazy shut everything down types. But they also are pro-mask and pro-vaccine. Government is all about testing, vaccinating and is generally on top of things. As a result cases aren’t ever that bad, covid is under control and ppl are living normal lives. The balance is right.

I’m guessing they don’t have the dumb-a$$ anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, anti-testers.

Or, maybe they did, but they “took care of them” early on.

He’d have to ban mask mandates too.

Don’t think that’d fly in purple VA.

He's absolutely going to. He campaigned on that position too. He said it in a radio interview the other day.

My kids will be maskless the first day.

+1. I’m in my 40s and never voted R in my life and definitely did not vote for Youngkin. But after today’s AEM thread from who I think is a influential APS teacher and advocate, I’m glad the way the vote turned out.

I flipped and voted Youngkin precisely because of APS and the total train wreck that it has been. Come from a family of public educators. Understand the logic may not add up, but, man—the smallest bit of gratification it gave me after so much school insanity was worth it. Hoping it pays off in some form in the end.

I do every day. Florida has the lowest case rate per capita in the country, and kids enjoying a normal school year, with Christmas shows, sports, etc. Our kids are treated at school like leprous disease vectors to appeal to the cult Zero COVIDians like Ventilation Woman and Teachers Union Man-Child.

Remember in the fall when Flordia had their surge, and the media blamed it all on not masking hard enough? Well, now all of those states that love masks are getting hit super hard.

It's just like the Bangladesh RCT on masks showed. Masks don't make a difference.

You are an idiot. Do you even have a kid in APS?

And of course masks make a difference.

Actually the discussion on AEM is heavily in favor of not closing.

I have to wonder how many on there are now thankful to APE and groups like them for pushing for the law. No doubt few would ever admit it.
