All employees should have yearly background checks. What is your solution? I don't agree with the social media surveillance but doing nothing is not working. |
This is the dumbest idea I've seen here in months and that's saying something. |
There have always been multiple incidents at the "good schools", even when there were SROs. |
Instead of removing them we need more. |
Because adding more of something that’s ineffective is going to make it effective? How does that logic work? SROs are not only ineffective, they’re harmful. We don’t need more of them. |
They are not harmful. What is your suggestion? |
A lot of students testified that they are harmful. What is your suggestion? |
|
Added to wrong part of quote: Actually, they are: https://www.edworkingpapers.com/ai21-476. While there’s some association with reductions in certain types of violence this effect size is very small; the effects on disproportionate removals from school is much much larger. What works to prevent violence? Actually getting to the underlying root causes, focusing on improving school climate, tiered systems of support, SEL, etc. |
The astroturfers are trying to make this into an issue by promoting these incidents. There's really nothing new and if anything it's shown how unnecessary the SROs were. |
They are absolutely necessary. As an alternative what are YOU proposing? You keep saying you don't want SRO's but have given no other answers as to how to prevent these things from happening. Do you even have school aged kids in MCPS? |
Your random paper didn't work however, of course we need to prevent violence but how do you propose that get done? And, in a way MCPS is willing to do? And, you cannot fix these kids without fixing the problems at home. Schools cannot fix the problems at home, only the parents and most aren't willing. MCPS is not providing more "support" and the support many families get is only for fighting for it or seeing the school system or going privately. You clearly have never worked with any of these kids. |
A lot didn't testify. A handful did who are a select group of attention seekers. So, what is your better suggestion since you don't want SRO's or security in the schools. Clearly more kids are being harmed by violence now than are from the SRO's. |
Stop it with your Fox News propaganda. Everybody wants security in schools. People in don't want useless SROs. |
