Is Book of Mormon mocking Mormons and if so, why is that ok?

If you are smart and funny enough, and not cruel, you get away with being brash.

Personally, I think made them up! Look at the council of Nicea and all the debates about all the religious doctrines that were had by men and decided upon by a vote or by rule of a crazy Roman emperor. Just because it’s clear that Jesus and Paul actually existed doesn’t mean that Jesus was divine or that God told Paul why to write in the epistles.

Second, I believe that the reason we know so much of Joseph Smith’s crazy history is because we actually have a history of it. How many first hand accounts by those who opposed Moses do we have today?

Third, there isn’t a lot of historical evidence for what happened in the Bible, not even 40-year wandering in the wilderness.

This is what happens when you do some research and stop believing in the weird faith you were born into. You realize that the rabbit hole goes all the way down. Most of my friends have left the church after learning about odd details of our religion. But their inquiry into religion didn’t stop with Joseph smith.

DP. There’s a massive difference between recording the myths and stories that have descended through millennia and totally making sht up. The stories in the Bible were old when they went in.

Joseph Smith started his cult to make money and get power. I’m sorry, but the idea of the buried golden plates and the lost tribe of Israel and seer stone in the bottom of a hat… it’s silly.

Give it another thousand years, and Joseph Smith will be myths and stories that have descended through millennia.

Swap out Mormonism for Judaism or Catholicism and tell me if it works. Or am I misunderstanding what the show is about? I’m curious to hear from people who have seen it.

How about you watch it or listen to it (you can find the song for free), and form your own opinion, instead of asking someone else to think for you. <--- this is one of the themes of the hit musical, The Book of Mormon.
