Why are Montgomery County residents so über covid conscious?

These aren’t even older, high risk people. These are friends of mine in their 30s with no significant health issues and are fully vaccinated.

When I leave the area - elsewhere in the US or even locally, in PG or even DC - it is still not so extreme, especially with the Zooming and masking. What is it specifically about MoCo that makes so many people OBSESSED with continuing Covid restrictions?

DC lost a grandparent. Multiple neighbors of mine got sick and died. Some of my students lost parents. Covid isn’t just the news for me.

I might wear one, but I also have allergies and have found out the masks help me. Or others may be wearing them because of the cold. And some people may just be paranoid. And other peoole.who are scientists know this is still a new virus. Who knows?

Masks are not mandated outdoors, and other people wearing them outdoors is not hurting you in the slightest. Let them do what they want to do.

Actually it does bother me. I want to go to events and see friends and meet people and smile at them. I want to wear lipstick. I like looking pretty. Sue me. I’m a young social person and I’m DONE with Zoom. Masks are so depressing. Life sucks enough as it is, why suck the joy out of the remaining things that don’t suck? I don’t go to festivals and parties to mask up and be anonymous. I go out to meet people and smile and laugh.

If it bothers you to wear a mask outdoors, there is absolutely nothing that prevents you from enjoying your lipstick and smiling without a mask.

If it bothers you that I feel differently, then understand that my freedom to make decisions for myself is my priority — just like yours seems to be for you. If the behavior of strangers is “depressing” you and “sucking out joy”, I sincerely hope that you have some way to address those concerns that doesn’t involve expecting other people to alter their behavior on your behalf — when that behavior has absolutely nothing to do with you.

That is really weird. I can't imagine getting so worked up like this, and I only wear masks outside if I forget I have one on.

PP, it’s quite likely that most people are not nearly as motivated as you are to look for “proof” of the mask- wearing habits of complete strangers.
You’re concerned that these strangers are “super-anxious “. The level of your concern seems less than healthy — at best. Perhaps focusing on your own issues might allay your concerns which seem super-obsessive.

Anyone hanging out at a public playground is not worried about getting covid or being super careful. Be real. If you are not worried about getting covid, at all, then something is wrong with you.

How can you pretend this didn't happen? I read the introductions in my children's classes and multiple kids said they lost a parent or grandparent or relative to covid. And, even now Covid deaths are still climbing.

MOCO is only wearing masks inside. People you see are wearing masks outdoors. I know you CC poeple think CC is the only place in MOCO but it's not. Try going to Rockville, you will see a few kids with masks.

I know a few kids that wear masks but they live in homes with compromised people. You don't know 1 person with a compromised person living in their house?

Seriously some of these people live in a bubble.

I know 4 people in their 50's that died of COVID ... one vaccinated and this summer. The other 3 had no pre-existing conditions.

I know 5 grandparents (of my kids friends) that died of COVID.

Also it's insane to me that poeple dont want their young adult sons to get the vaccine because of "myocarditis" but are not concerned about them getting COVID.
