Anyone know what’s going on there? I saw the article about the 6th grader who was bullied and have heard rumors about kids getting suspended left and right from my 7th grader. |
What's happening is that a lot of kids have parents who apparently have neglected to parent them. Basic lessons like "don't commit battery against other kids, especially those with disabilities" and "don't sexually assault classmates" apparently have been lacking over the last 11-13 years of these kids' lives. Swanson pulls many from middle to upper middle class families. This is not a low SES school with most kids crammed into low income housing and parents working minimum wage service jobs throughout the pandemic. I say that to point out that's often been an excuse for kids' feral behavior this year (also known as blaming it on the brown kids), and I'm saying it doesn't really apply to the overwhelmingly vast majority of Swanson students.
There's still been no real insight into why they took the principal, who many parents liked, and moved her into an Asst Superintendent role for which she is completely unqualified. I assume it's related, but bad news for APS at the system level. |
This is the first I've heard of any issues. DD is in 6th so maybe she is oblivious? The only negative thing DD has mentioned lately is they are doing nothing in one of her classes b/c the teacher is having a family issue and the subs don't do anything. She was really looking forward to this particular class so it's disappointing (not criticizing the teacher with the family issue, but I hate that DD is missing out).

The bullying situation with the child with autism is disturbing on so many levels. I shared the story with my kids so they can understand how the child on the receiving end feels and it doesn’t stop for the victim when kids say they’re sorry. The mom‘s account of what her son has gone through post incident is heart breaking.

08:54 poster here, thank you for posting the link. I will ask my DD later about this. Man I feel so badly for that kid. |
Among other things - Last fall a girl was repeatedly sexually assaulted (unwanted touching) by a group of boys both on and off campus. Earlier this year a kid brought a knife to school. A few weeks ago a kid who was being bullied fought back and the aggressor was injured. The story on the news last week was of a boy with special needs who had been repeatedly targeted and then was bullied and punched during gym class. The parents brought that story to the local news and school board to raise awareness. Rumors abound with the actual details of all the incidents. There probably have been more but these are the ones I can name off the top of my head. |
Apparently now we can add tasers to the list! |
Um just got an email about a kid bringing a TASER to school? What the hell? |
Is this some police officer's kid? Who has a taser around their house? |
Probably the kid's Lululemon-wearing mom keeps it in her high-end SUV for "security". |
This was my first thought. |
Someone must have heard something-- dish it here! We can't gossip on the Swanson Parents Facebook page because the new principal will shut it down. ![]() |
Is the Swanson Principal a Swanson Parent? |
Time to bring back Resource Officers . . . |
The irony would be if it was actually an ACPD officer's taser. |
