There is a high school student running for DC Council in Ward 3

A kid from Wilson High School (aka Jackson-Reed High School) is running to replace Mary Cheh in Ward 3. I watched some of the DC for Democracy Ward 3 Candidate Forum last night and he gave a good accounting for himself. He was knowledgeable and had well-thought out positions on most of the issues. Good for him!

At least his principal residence is likely in DC. Unlike the questions about another Ward 3 Council candidate.

So funny - I saw him at the Lafayette farmers market last weekend - in an attempt to introduce himself he said to my husband " Hi, are you a republican?"

The kid will have a great college essay to write.

It wouldn't be shocking if DC voters decided they wanted a high school student to run things. High schoolers do have very strong social media credentials which is what DC politics is all about.

Is the kid a republican? If so, he'll get a vote from moi. We need some counter-balance on the Council.

I saw him at that farmer’s market as well! I kept saying it must be a school project because he and his bro-y friends seemed too young to actually run for office. Guess I was wrong!

+1

I assume that’s why he’s doing this. Harvard or bust!

This is the Democratic primary, but Eric Goulet, who is running as a Democrat, has basically positioned himself to the right of every other candidate. He may as well have been a Republican, and I hope he gets clobbered. Not what we need in the District right now.

Being to the right of DC progressives is nowhere near Republican. It might put you close to center-left or accused of being a moderate.

I would vote for any high schooler over the joker we have here in Ward 6.

I'd like to see some balance on the DC Council between the clueless "Wokes" and the developer puppets. It seems that Phil Mendelson is the only grown up left.

Goulet is probably angling for the Washington Post endorsement by being the most conservative candidate in the race.
