You didn't answer the question. This person is not asking about the current situation, but a general rule. |
Corporations are against the tariffs, and against Trump's immigration crackdown. |
No, they voted against a CR that does not extend the temporary COVID subsidy increase. |
Both Dems and Reps want the temporary subsidy increase to continue. Once they figure out how to make that happen without the Reps having to accept the blame/credit for it, then the shutdown will end. |
The CR was already agreed to and the covid subsidies were not included in that, in fact that was passed a while back, why do they think bringing it up now it in any way valid to the prior passed agreement? Its like singing to buy a house and you pass all inspections and consessions and then someone brings up they don't like the color of the floors and want to delay signing and include that. |
Because the House back in March used the same "my way or the highway" posture that they are using now, passing their bill then refusing any negotiation with the Senate. Schumer reluctantly voted for their bill, hoping an extension to the subsidies could be worked out during the summer. That didn't happen and Dems see this as their last chance on the subsidies, given that open enrollment begins next month. |
GOP spin.. Obviously there was NOT sufficient agreement to leave the subsidies out, or we wouldn't have a shutdown problem. |
You need to check your facts because "already agreed to" is doing A LOT of work there. |
Agreed to by who? Certainly not by the democrats whose votes they wanted. |
The Rs don't want the subsidy increase to continue. If they did, they would have just voted for the Democratic CR that included them. |
| Any time a US political party tries to govern without even remotely attempting to build consensus with the other side, they are going to be susceptible to shutdowns and filibusters. |
Look more closely. |
Great point! They voted against the subsidy extension but they actually support it! |
Well, they were for Trump. So, too little too late. |
Add to this any party who refuses to negotiate with the other and holds the White House, both chambers of Congress, and the Supreme Court are responsible if it comes to a shutdown. It is not the responsibility of the minority party to bail out the majority party if they are too incompetent to govern. |
