In one of his 1st moves in office, Va.'s new Republican AG reached down into the state's university system and fired the top lawyer at UVA -- a lawyer who went on leave from the school last year to be the top investigator on the Jan. 6 committee

Of course the NYT does it's normal bothsides thing, refusing to say explicitly what is going on.

Democrats in Virginia denounced the action as a partisan move aimed at helping former President Donald J. Trump undercut the investigation of the Capitol riot.

But other than the NYT refusing to cast the truth as the truth, instead falling back on the old "Democrats say" frame, the headline isn't terrible.

While Miyares does have the authority to fire him, the position he held is typically a career rather than appointed position, and decisions about hirings and firings are usually left to the colleges and universities without interference from the state AG.

UVA is giving no cover to Miyares here: “University leaders are grateful to Tim for his outstanding service to our community and disappointed to see it come to an end. If you have further questions about this matter, I would check with the attorney general’s office, as this was their decision to make.”
