| I mean, their parking lots are always full but the food is objectively gross. Or is it merely convenient? They have a larger menu in places that may not have restaurants with lots of options. Do people say "oh, I could get on some Cracker Barrel right now." |
| I agree with you, but it’s very inexpensive and convenient. |
| It’s occasional road trip food and we only ever get breakfast. |
| I actually like their pancakes. And I'm a foodie. But I am also a sucker for greasy-spoon diner food as a comfort thing. |
| I'm not going out of my way for it, but it's definitely a bright spot if I have to do a road trip. |
| And where do you go out to eat on a regular basis? |
|
My husband does, he loves biscuits and gravy. I can find a fine meal there, particularly breakfast, and I like walking around the little store, but I always feel bloated and gross after eating there. It is VERY hard to find anything light.
But when you are driving down 95 with kids and need a substantial break, it is nice and clean, has a porch for them to run some energy out, a cute little store to walk around, and kid friendly fare and is usually pretty expedient. So it serves its purpose. |
| People legitimately love it. |
| Love it. I’ll eat there on a road trip just to walk thru the store! |
|
Yep, it's a decent road trip stop, esp. with a breakfast loving family.
Also used to love going to Friendly's... |

Just like anything that really is subjective , different people like different things. Is this a surprise? I’ve only been once, but I have friends that stop there as part of their summer travel routines,
OP, if the point of your post was really to sneer at people who don’t share your “objectively” refined tastes, please disregard. If you’re really curious though, I can ask my friends what they like to order there and report back. The store I went to was a hoot, and I’m told that their rocking chairs are quite comfy. |
| Absolutely disgusting. For people with zero taste buds. |
| How can you say “objectively gross” about food when food and taste are subjective? |
| It’s the rocking chairs. |
|
I love their chicken and dumplings, turnip greens, and sweet potato casserole.
You have to like southern food. It’s ok if you don’t. Don’t go there to order a burger or a salad. |
