So about this planned action by substitutes…

Wow. They want $300/day to sub. I've seen contractors in war-zones not get that rate of pay.
|
|
Here we go…
I do think they should increase their pay though but not the same as retired teachers that have certifications. |
|
How about they pay full-time teachers who sign a year-long contract, no more than 10 days of in-person absence etc, $5,500+ a month and call it day?
Why pay subs (DCPS retirees) $9,000/mo? Get teachers for a year instead. |
| The current daily rate is $15 hr, assuming an 8 hr work day--that's less than DC's minimum wage! |
|
$120 per day to teach kids. That's just a whisker above minimum wage. Absolutely unconscionable.
WHY are we so constantly underfunding education? |
| (To PP -- I was assuming a 7h day, so about $17/hour -- but either way, it's awful.) |
| I support this. The pay is ridiculous. |
Concur is awful. Pay them. |
*it’s |
| Really? That’s 78,000 a year. Working every day. And you know they can’t work all year. You think that’s too much??? |
But the retiree pay only applies to retired DCPS teachers. Why wouldn’t a retired MoCo or VA teacher have the same qualifications? Or are there DC specifics credentials that actually matter for a substitute that might come into play? |
Just to clarify, their current pay is ridiculous. They absolutely deserve a raise. |
| Man I pay a college babysitter more than a sub makes. I'm not rich, just a fed making under $90K before taxes. Pretty sure subbing a public school class of 30 kids is harder than playing with my 4 yo and 2 yo. |
Yep. Our nanny makes $7/hour more. |
