I’m not participating in this revolt. I voted for Biden in the primary and I expect my vote to be honored. A switch at this point would be an attack on democracy.

You are really obsessed with posting here. Real Democrats understand that
1. Their options were limited in the primary thanks to Biden
2. Biden stepping down because of his health is not "an attack on democracy" don't be daft

I'm a new poster. I'm also an independent. Personally, I took find it maddening to be lectured on democracy by a party that is throwing out its own elections.

The notion that Biden's health changed dramatically between the primaries and the debate is unlikely.

The notion that the primaries were somehow not "real" because Biden was an incumbent is also not true. RFK tried to challenge Biden, and the Democratic Party sidelined him.

DP here.

It's true that Biden, who has been declining for a couple of years now, has had a precipitous decline since Spring 2024. It's more likely caused by a series of mini-strokes than Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease, given what we know of his symptoms, although of course no one can definitely answer, not even his doctor. Why? Because these diseases are usually confirmed AFTER symptoms have become debilitating, unfortunately. There are ways of imaging the brain to look for the vascular injuries due to strokes and mini-strokes, but he probably didn't have that done (it would mean a visit to Walter Reed). Mini-strokes are not visible to the naked eye. It's not like you fall over and become paralyzed down one side of your face and need hospitalization. You may have a peculiar headache for a bit, but that's it - you're walking and talking throughout.

The comments about elections and democracy are just not grounded in reality. In a perfect world, sure, we'd have time for elections and primaries and voters would be consulted all the time. But in this world? No, it doesn't, and has never, worked like that. In any country. Due to inertia, no Democrat except the incumbent had a chance in the Dem primary. Biden should never have sought relection, that's for sure. So here Democrats are, in a mess of their own making, and Harris is the only candidate who has a glimmer of a chance of hoisting them out of this mess.

You completely lose me with the last sentence. Whatever is going on with Biden, Harris is NOT a better candidate than he is. Polls are clear on this.

Since she is not incapacitated, she is a better candidate than Biden.

Have some integrity.

I assumed that by hoisting the Democrats out of this mess, you were referring to winning the election.

Is this about putting forward a healthy candidate or is it about winning? Because right now, it looks like Biden has a better chance than Harris. (Personally I think both would lose to Trump).

It's about neither. Its 1. about Clooney getting revenge and 2. It;s about other Democrats trying to get their shot at the presidency instead of Harris. If Nothing changes and Biden is elected in steps down Between 25 and 26 Harris has a shot at being president until 2037, , if the country doesn't decide to go republican meaning the others will likely miss out on their political ambitions, forcing an open convention means they can oust Harris too.

“Vote for Kamala. She’s not incapacitated.”

Sounds like a winning slogan.

She is not an unknown. She does not come across well but her history, her abilities are reassuring.

She does not seem to have, or is unwilling to state, a vision and a plan for the future, but neither do Trump or Biden.

Her only hope of winning is if they make it clear that if Trump wins Project 2025 will be the law of the land. And if they give her a moderate.conservative leaning white male running mate as VP.

Honestly, this is what I think:

DNC leadership know 2024 is a lost cause. It doesn’t matter if it is Joe or Kamala on the ticket at this point.

The problem is that no one Dem top contender is going to want to be VP with Kamala at the top.

It’s like a coach who doesn’t want to burn his bullpen if he’s down 0-9 in the 9th inning. Just save your best players for the next game and use up your expendable resources.

Disagree. Biden is losing to Trump because of his age and infirmity, not because Trump is a winning candidate. Harris will do very well, when she becomes an official candidate and begins campaigning for herself instead of for Biden or Dems generally, as she is currently doing.

The DNC was caught flat footed. They were going with Biden - up until he failed. They are still floundering.

If Biden does step down, hopefully it’s a small set of stairs. We’ve already seen him try and get down during the debate.

What debate? It will be forgotten like Biden's other performances indicating he is not able. He was doing this in 2020, and got elected. If he stays in all those people who said he was incapable, will just pretend they never said it.

They'll go back to
"This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second. "

Yeah no.

Look at some old videos of Biden from the beginning of his presidency. He is unrecognizable today. Everyone can see that. Some deny it, for whatever reason.
