Should NATO/ US planes bomb the Russian military massing on the Ukraine border?

Anonymous
It appears clear Putin plans to invade a sovereign country (again).

Should we bomb the Russian military in this case?

Bottom line, if Putin moves towards Ukraine, the Russian economy gets cut off from the rest of the world. See SWIFT.

The oligarchs won't like that and their economy will tank overnight. Also, the Germans will cut off development of Nordstream2, so basically it would be catastrophic for Putin to act.

If he wants to go for it, then go ahead and make our day.

Nordstream2 will not be stopped.

The EU needs it to be completed.

Are you really that dumb?

Of course not!
However I am very nervous. I have travel plans to one of the neighboring countries and I am afraid someone will freak out, the other side will react and the whole thing will just blow up and out of proportion.
I think the US has very bad understanding of the Russian (or rather, Putin) way of thinking. Many Russia specialists were laid off when things seemed to be going well… so there’s not enough insight.
Then, Russians have never been great about cross cultural understanding and communication.
It all bears such a huge potential for fatal mistakes.
Russians are demonstrating their might but not planning to invade - they want guarantees that Ukraine won’t be part of NATO and there will be no NATO missiles there. The US misinterprets it and claims Russia wants to invade - which it doesn’t, but it’s easily provoked which I think the US doesn’t understand.
Another problem is that it is extremely hard for a typical Russian to admit mistakes. And the US seems to keep demanding it. It’s just massive miscommunication and I am worried…

I don't think there is any mininterpretation to intentions. The Russians have already invaded Ukraine and have been involved in an ongoing campaign in Donbas.

The Russians do not have the right to dictate what happens in another country's borders. The US and Europeans have made it clear that any military action will be met with swift (pardon the pun) reaction that will decimate the Russian economy.

If the Russian want to back down, they can continue with their fossil fuel exports and association with the global economy, which servers their money laundering oligarchs.

Just ban Bitcoin if you really want to f#ck with the Russians.

We don't just casually massacre people for amassing on their own side of the border. Yeeesh.

No. We should not strike first. They have not done anything yet. I think we will let Ukraine be invaded. Then cut off Russia from the world and deploy a massive amount of US troops to bordering NATO countries.

From where we are now we cannot stop the Russians invading Ukraine. In a conventional fight Russia would lose but we are not in a position right now to have that fight. We will get in position so he can't go further.

The decision to join NATO:

- isn’t that entirely up to the Ukrainians?

The Europeans aren’t interested in Ukraine so why should we be? Ukraine’s not worth one American life or penny.

I think you're right but also that Russia does not understand the American way of thinking. Easy scenario for a miscalculation but there is nothing we can do except clearly lay out the potential consequences.

The Baltics, Poland and Romania all care what happens and they are all NATO allies. Armenia and Georgia also care.

Will they commit troops? Station them on the border?
