Is Emory Overrated? Or Underrated?

Anonymous
Emory consistently ranks 20-25 in most rankings but is this ranking warranted? Emory seems to boast their undergrad b school, but is placement makes it seem like a semi-target. If you were to rank Emory, where would you place it?

Definitely not underrated... maybe a little overrated, but it's a decent school. Just don't expect amazing exit opps or for many people to be "impressed" in the same way they might be for other top private schools.

We love an Emory thread here at DC. The schools it ranks better than on US news or WSJ/Times ranking includes
CMU,UVA,UMich,Notre Dame,Georgetown
UCB,UCLA,Tufts,USC ,Gatech and many others

Stop trolling DC please.

Replying to your own thread?! We can tell because "exit oops" and "semi target" are part of the same pre-business lingo.

If you want to stay in the south or NYC, Emory outplacement is very good. It's Medical school is also tops, so pre-med is strong.

It is otherwise a "nice" school all around. I think the top 30 ranking is accurate.

It's ranked 20 on both rankings I believe. It's a top 20 school and it has good placement in DC as well.

My daughter is in the undergrad b-school. Emory's rating is deserved (the school may be slightly underrated). The academics are extremely intense/rigorous so students have to want to be in that type of environment.

It's better than uva

Many people say they attend Emory but they really are on the Oxford campus.

True... Oxford is technically a different school ( different conference affiliation and everything) but is marketed as the same thing. It's more similar to Barnard and Columbia. But the Emory main campus is a top 20 school.

Oxford campus is only for the first two years. Then the students finish their degree on the main campus.

Definitely not the same person. But whatever makes you feel better.

The truth is that Emory simply is not that elite. It’s a good school but it tends to get way overhyped on here for some reason.

If Emory isn't elite then Vanderbilt, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon and a host of other schools not ranked in the top 10 aren't either. Which is fine but just keeping you honest.

What? Cornell and Dartmouth are elite, no holds barred. But also, your point of comparisons don't even make sense. Emory isn't ranked above Vanderbilt, Cornell, or Dartmouth in any rankings.
