Imagine what it could do for the self-esteem of child like R to see her mom embrace a black woman as she embraces white women, in a deep enduring, ride or die type of friendship.

I think, to a large degree, the entire progressive thing is largely about image rather than substance, about being seen striking the right poses and signaling for the right causes rather than actually living anything out. It's what the late writer Tom Wolfe referred to as "radical chic."

I was in a church full of these sorts of people for over a decade. A large contingent of the women were Glennon and Jen fans who advocated social justice causes and posted about racism on their Facebook pages, etc. Ironically, the most authentic members of our church, who ministered to all kinds of people in all kinds of low key, non-flashy ways, were the most theologically and politically conservative family in the church. The husband voted for Trump. He also mentored young black men in the Chicago public school system. He was there for me when I had a major mental health issue.

It reminds me of Jesus words: "for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God."

Progressivism is fashionable in these circles. Feminism too. But a lot of it is just empty posing, as you said.

I work in media and by far the nastiest most back stabbing most anti-women managers and editors are the loudest public “feminists”.

This may be anecdotal, but I’m seeing a big shift in “real life”. I have several super progressive, white women in my family. Their social media accounts from 2016-2022’ish were NON-STOP liberal campaigns. The black squares, the Jan 6 pictures, the pink p*ssy hats, abortion is healthcare, all of it. My COUSIN literally said (via Instagram), that anyone not aligning with her political beliefs should “remove themselves” from her life. Lol. No one did, of course.

Now? Complete SILENCE. They’re still active on social media, but post NOTHING political. No Kamala ads, no “the boxer is a woman!” posts, not even a single mention of Palestine.

What happened???

Maybe slightly less. The "worst offenders" in my personal circle have been quieter but I think they're just starting to get amped up for the elections, LOL. I also think there has been some settling and maybe a small shift toward center for some of them. Might have something to do with the economy, might have something to do with the fact that women's spaces are being taken away from us, or might have something to do with feeling the alienation that resulted from posts like that. Who knows? I consider myself just right of center but over the past eight years, my more blue leaning friends have slid waaaayyyyy left and now I am "uber right wing" in their eyes, which is not how I see myself or view the world.

Out of all my black square pink cooter hat posting friends, I know two that actually give their time to the causes they believe in.

I am pretty liberal but all that was exhausting. I also have a job that doesn't allow me to post about politics so I have found more enriching conversations with friends. Even my trump friends seem tired of it all, we just want to have peace and happy families.

It's not uncommon for event organizers to promote something that's not selling. The giveaway at this point in time is not earthshattering and it might give one of her fangirls who can't afford the cruise a chance to go.

What is a little gross to me is that she's wanting "nominations" without giving any specific criteria on how to nominate or how she'll select the winner. I could see her picking someone who has gone through a divorce and trotting her "inspirational story" out for a photo opp. I don't see it being a peaceful cruise at all but more being on call as "Jen's special guest." That's a little cringy

I saw Kristen post about her ex on twitter. She said he's moved away to another state and is no longer involved in the kids' lives. I didn't take it as her trashing him, more just saying what was going on. Isn't he a family therapist too? Man, these therapists who can't stay married or even stick around for their kids is something.

I met Kristen H. & her kids quite randomly a few years back. She was polite in the "I'm the queen, you're the peasant" kind of way and her kids seemed to have that self-important air, too. My adopted internationally, too, and I used to follow her when she was Rage Against the Minivan and loved her writing. I was less enamored of her after meeting her in person and shortly after that, she started some kind of "a-hole parents" movement that I found off-putting. I don't even look anymore

I had never heard of Kristen until she was on Jen’s Divorce Rant podcast (with Jamie Wright too).

Kristen was a big deal in the international adoption circles. I found Jen through Kristen and found Jen more relatable. Even back then, Kristen seemed like she was apologizing for being Christian and it turned me off. I was still a pretty hardcore JH fangirl when I met Kristen and probably would have peed myself if I'd met Jen instead. With Kristen it was more of a "Hey, I read your blog, cool!" but I'd have probably moved myself into corn eater status if I'd have come face-to-face with the great Jen Hatmaker in 2017.

I hate seeing how far she's fallen. Def. not a fangirl anymore and any remnants of admiration for her were long gone after I learned about corn eaters. But it's still kinda sad.

Basically, Glennon, Jamie, Kristen and Jen are kind of crazy. Always victims. Always love telling others how to live their lives, with a generous sprinkling of profanity and irreverence. I'm glad FOR Jamie that she has kind of faded away on sm and is focused on her local family and causes.

Any more word about Together Rising and Legacy Collective biting the dust?
