Another massive sexual abuse scandal

What do you say about this? Any chance this would budge your views that repressing sexuality for “piety” may just result in more, not less, sexual abuse?

Catholic sexual abuse of children has gone un for thousands of years. It’s not going to change.

Okay.

I just want people in this forum to justify their continued participation in something that is clearly harmful to children. Clearly. Any other group would be broken up and its leaders arrested.

I know this forum is a place for peace or whatever, but what about all the molested children? Is your conscience clear? No wonder the church rows increasingly sit empty.

Yes. And if you are still giving money to the catholic church, you are funding coverups and hurting children. I can't understand why ANYONE sends their kid to catholic school with the way children have been treated by the leadership. It's sickening.

Big surprise. LOL no. UGH again and again children?

Catholic church members really?

I don't want to see one more post that oh Catholics are being persecuted on this forum.

Further proof the Catholic church is not safe for children.

Many people are grateful for their experiences growing up in Catholic orphanages. Abuse is certainly not universal.

I hope that individuals who had a good experience understand that it is not acceptable that some do not.

"Grateful" for what? That they were not abused?

Give us a break. Catholic Church = child abuse

Seriously who covers up Child abuse over and over again and supports that?

Because they rationalize that their own kids are having a good experience. And perhaps because, like many religious people, their judgment is clouded by the many comforts that their religion brings.

The ritual is soothing. There's a lot to be said for the social life and it's a relief to believe that you'll live forever in heaven, surrounded by your (Catholic-only) friends and relatives.

A close family member grew up in a Catholic orphanage.

He was lovingly cared for by a nun he's still close to. He was beaten by others and molested by the visiting priest.

One out of three's not bad, I guess?

At this point one is knowingly supporting abuse. I think people continue because they are weak but I do judge people who continue to rationalize supporting this institution.

“It’s OK, it’s not like they abused ALL the orphans!” #notallorphans

French person here.

France is culturally very Catholic, even though few people attend services regularly. It took such a long time for the media to even talk about this, and for people to accept this had been going on, because the Church has great sway and commands a lot of respect. My mother was raised in a very Catholic household, went to schools taught by nuns, my Godfather is very pious, against same-sex marriages and adoptions by same-sex couples, etc... and it's only recently they've been able to see this as any other criminal investigation, and say a word against the Church.
