Oh well. It is getting hard to believe that MCSP can stay in-person uninterrupted.

No, it's not.

How can a school stay open if a large number of students/teachers are sick???

Easy. Less kids. Other teachers cover. You could sign up to be a sub.

They could put more precautions in place. They don’t care. Neither do parents.

Like what? Be specific. There’s a parent at our school who keeps harping on the need for smaller class sizes, but fails to explain how to find more staff and more space (school is at, if not slightly over, capacity). There aren’t even enough subs. Most schools have some sort of outdoor lunch arrangement even if it’s on a rotational basis. What exactly do you want? “More testing” is not really a precautionary measure.

The best thing MCPS can do at this point is make it easy for parents to get their kids vaccinated, and they seem to be trying to do that with the evening/weekend clinics.

Kids and teachers get sick every winter. It's fine. We should be requiring teachers to get vaccinated and boosted to minimize absences, but McKnight pulled back the vaccine mandate, and never considered a booster mandate.

Student absences are a problem, particularly because MCPS doesn't require schools to accommodate them virtually. We should really be putting cameras in the classrooms for them to join their class. But, if the teachers continue to refuse to do that, schools should be required to join the virtual pool so that their quarantined students can get some instruction and help for those 10 days.

Teachers are vaccinated. Find a new talking point. VA cannot take your kids who getcovid it’s a regular school. Your kids get Covid, your problem. Like you said. Kids get sick. Deal with it.

Sure, no problem. This semester, my high school kid’s AP history class has been taught at various times by their PE teacher, their band director, their French teacher, and one day, by nobody. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here.

(To clarify: all this because their teacher has long Covid. )

Fortunately, teachers can now be vaccinated and boostered.

Not VA. Some schools pool their resources, having teachers take turns providing instruction to quarantined students. Other schools don't do that, and simply have students fend for themselves for 10 days.

Raise sub pay—and more to the point, process the applications of parents who have said they are willing to sub. My husband applied weeks ago. Not a peep from MCPS.

The number of cases is lower now than it was in September. Obviously, the numbers could get worse as we head into winter, but IMO, the numbers aren't that bad compared to the start of the school year. Vax obviously helps.
