Whomever on here thinks that it is OK for a teen to stick his fingers on the breasts and vaginas of children aged 4-12 and for the parents to pretty much turn a blind eye to it are crazy! I hope the same thing is not happening in your own home to your own children, and worse yet, you are condoning it! This had nothing to do with liberals or conservatives, fanatical Chriastians or conservatives. It has to do with sexual abuse of children and allowing the perpetrator to face no consequences in the name of money. This family knew that if this leaked out that their show and the money train would end (or would never have begun in the first place). These kids were essentially "prostituted" (in more ways than one) by their parents in order to make a buck-that is what is wrong here!

Although sexual abuse and assault can happen in any family, I do think this family's sick obsession with sex does have something to do with it in this case.

If I understand correctly, it's not just their obsession - it is the religious teachings of the weird sect/cult they are part of.

There is no way of knowing if this would have happened had they not been so secluded and sheltered, but I feel like it was a contributing factor.

And why so many are bringing up the family's religion - the teachings and people in this sect are dangerous. It isn't about the persecution of all Christians, people.

To the people who hate the duggars because of their religion, what if the duggars were Muslims instead, would you still be on here blasting them and outraged by this story? Because Muslims seem to get a pass with liberals, even though they do not accept homosexuals and transgender people. They take it a step further though, and kill people for it. When they have a tv show about them and they use that forum to broadcast their hate filled beliefs, I will be outraged, yes.

Again, as I noted above, the Duggars were not *just* Christians but actively campaigned against gay families and legal protections for gay citizens and their families. We are not criticizing them for being Christians but for being hypocrites. Yes, if they were Muslim and actively and publicly advocated against gay families on the grounds that gays were child molesters then yes, we would criticize them as well. Look at the criticism leveled against the head Rabbi at Kesher in Georgetown (an Orthodox synagogue) who turned out to be looking at naked women. This would be different if he were just some Jewish guy who was a CEO that was a Peeping Tom.

Not necessarily. In some states, fourteen year olds can and are charged as adults for some sexual crimes and capital cases. I don't know about this particular state, and that is why I state, "not necessarily" as to him being charged as a juvenile with sealed records.

The common denominator is "fundamentalism." I dislike fundamentalist Christianity, Islam, and the hard-line Orthodox Jewish beliefs that don't allow them to sit next to women on an airplane. All of these fundamentalist sects have lots in common, including institutionalized oppression of women. Nobody gets a pass from me, no matter what form their beliefs take.

I have no problem with more mainstream religious beliefs.
