If Harris picks him the black community would get on board. He had Jim Clyburn’s support and he (Buttigieg) is the father of two black children. Pete would be a phenomenal ally for the black community and all of America.

He's also on record as telling his black constituents he didn't care so good luck with that.

He brings nothing to the table that Harris needs and actually poses a risk to losing votes

He's a no.

Get over it.

You're wrong and I'm not getting over it. He brings a lot that she needs - he's an adept communicator, messenger, and attack dog. He loves policy and has a brilliant and calm demeanor. Any of the choices are risky and she very well may not choose him, but he's still the smartest pick.

He's also very smart and good at seeing how best to message while campaigning. I was a doubter, but the more I've gotten to know his work, the more I see him as a potential good President.

This would be a mistake.
Let him be Press secretary.

Not VP

Generally, once you've been the Secretary of Transportation, Press Secretary is a step down, but who knows?

Word is that Biden offered him press secretary and he turned it down. He wanted transportation or state.

Beshear is handsome and young.

Lol I told my husband that Mark Kelly looks like a menacing Professor X, but goblin is also accurate.

JB Pritzker needs to lose 50 lbs to have a shot. How is he that rich and not on Ozempic?

Most politicians aren’t attractive, but they can’t look frightening or sloppy.

He looks fine. And he’s a freaking astronaut!! How cool is that?

Yeah, to me Mark Kelly looks like any middle-aged dad you might meet at a suburban neighborhood barbecue.

I will lose faith in Harris if she doesn’t have a VP running mate by this weekend. She doesn’t have time to sit around on this decision.

Go ahead and lose faith. Vetting is essential.

But too green. Better than Vance certainly but he would undermine the inexperience argument they’re focusing on right now.

He can go home as far as I'm concerned. Don't like him at all wish he disappeared after 2020. But he got a nod in the party because the Hollywood Dems want him.
He has his shine in transportation he can stay there or go home
No VP for him.

He has been an effective administrator and transportation advocate. What is your problem with him?

Different person. I'm gay, but I also think it would not be smart to pick gay VP. Will hurt election odds, not worth the risk.

+1 it would result in “identity politics” messaging that would be a huge distraction.

It feels like people are just throwing out names to raise their profile

I love it! The more surrogates out there talking Harris up, the better.

Surrogates?!

Yeh, people out there boosting Harris. They are called surrogates. Seems like the thread has gone sideways.

Bummed Cooper dropped out but understand why. I think he was a top choice. He and Harris have good relationship from AG times, he has experience as legislators, AG and governor. I’m sure he’ll be Senator in 2026.

They’ve always just been called supporters.

Supporters are people like me - ordinary nobodies who like her. Surrogates are people in power - people with big public profiles - who go out on television and hold events on her behalf.

Sarah Longwell of The Bulwark talked a lot about how it was a problem that Biden didn't have surrogates going out to talk him up.

I like Beto but I don't think he's right for this year .
Perhaps a position in the administration

Beto is a lightweight with an ability to come up shining. Harris wants substance (I mean I don’t know but my version of Harris wants her to want substance). Beto needs to do a bit more heavy lifting before he’s ready for prime time.

He needs to win something first!

Why are you in such a rush? She’s only been the presumptive nominee for 9 days. It’s more important to thoroughly vet a VP than it is just to have one.

Yeah, I don't think any of us want to end up with a JD Vance type pic..... Which I think the Trump boys used a dartboard to pick

Hello? Has anyone looked at Trump? He’s a macys day parade balloon in an oversized tie. He is as cartoonish as they come

Trump is…exceptional.

I have no issues with Beshear, who seems lovely, but he was a stronger pick back before JD Vance self-destructed. His main appeal was that he could blunt the impact of Vance, who is from suburban Ohio. Now that Vance has demonstrated that he has zero restraint or political instincts, the need for a Beshear-shaped candidate is lessened.
