2022 PVS JO Qualifying Times - When will they be published?

Anonymous
As we begin the first few meets of the season, wondering when PVS will publish the qualifying times for upcoming meets?!
Any ideas?

Thx!!

Really depends where the region is with Covid. For example, DC made PVS LC champs and Zones this past summer, but they made the cuts such that it was harder to qualify compared to past years- in order to keep numbers down.

Following that rationale, if things are still bad with Covid, cuts will be fast. If things are back to normal, cuts might look more like past years. Way too early to tell.

I didn't even notice they were harder- aren't they usually about a "AA" cut (for 13-14)?

That’s what coach and meet organizer told us

They were definitely harder this year. Usually they are closer to an "A" cut.

The big October meets are up to 400 swimmers per session, this is a good sign.

But I do agree, too early to tell. We may be looking at Wave Championship format again and limiting kids to one Championship meet rather than both a local and a travel as we have done in the past.

Everyone will be vaccinated by then. Last March no kids had been vaccinated and not many adults. It is totally different now.

My kid's coach on Sept 30th said they're coming "soon."

Meanwhile kid is stressing a little about which events to swim in November. By 2020 standards, they'd have 6 events because they are strong in LC. By 2021 standards, without LC times they'd have one. So swim strong events now to have multiple chances, or swim weaker events to be more well-rounded and hope the old qualifying times with LC standards come back? Hopefully PVS will post these before next weekend.

I am confused - by LC do you mean long course times? Are they not going to allow summer long course times to qualify? I thought usually you can qualify with a LC time. This would be regardless of whether they make the time standards more difficult bc if COVID.

In 2020 and earlier for JOs there was both a SCY and LCM time you could use to qualify. But the 2021 Wave Chanps meets only had SCY qualifying times. If they stick with the Wave format, can't use LC times.

If your swimmer qualified for summer JO (aka PVS LC Champs) then probably fine for spring JO. LC times have always been accepted in the past, I can't imagine that would change this year. For summer JO they took SCY times.

Ah yes, except for the Wave format as a PP posted, I'm thinking it won't go back to that...

I thought that was bc no one actually had LC times because 2020 summer swim meets were cancelled for age group swimmers.

Ok I know this is a basic question but what is the difference between LCM and SCY? Is one yards and one meters?
What difference does the “summer” component make. Does the “S” stand for summer or “short”.
I am confused!! Help?

LCM races are swim in an Olympic-sized 50 meter pool. So a 100 race would be across the pool and back. Generally, meets with LCM events are swum between April and August, which is where the summer part comes in. This is NOT talking about summer leagues (NVSL, MCSL, etc) but USA Swimming meets. SCY is a 25 yard pool (so how the indoors pools normally are configured). Short Course Yards is usually swum from fall to March.
